With high-end chain hotels you know, within reason, what you are going to get. Holiday Inn Express (HIE) is a great example of that. And the HIE Houston Space Center - Clear Lake is a great example of the HIE chain of excellence. The only difference, to me, between HIE locations is the staff. I have had good luck in this regard. At the Clear Lake location it has been exemplified. Tiffany greeted me with a smile and cheeriness that made me glad I braved the downtown Houston traffic to come to this location. She had me checked in within minutes. I was staying for 4 nights (WED through SAT) but could not get a reservation for SAT night and thus was going to have to move to the Deer Park HIE. I asked to be notified if there was a cancellation for SAT at the Clear Lake location. Thursday evening Tiffany was able to call me right after she had received a cancellation for Saturday! I was glad she remembered my request and had acted upon it without haste after a cancellation had been received. I appreciated her professionalism and for "taking care of every guest's needs." I also wanted to give Morgan a big Kudos for being helpful and for answering all my questions when I called for reservations and when I had to check back in Saturday night. She made sure my stay for the weekend was a pleasant one and also displayed exceptional professionalism when making this happen! Staff service like the kind I got from Tiffany and Morgan are why I continuously chose HIE locations to stay in!
The Breakfast was good. For hot food they scrambled eggs 3 of the 4 days I was there. One day they had cheese omelets which are always good! If I had to pick something to complain about here it would be that I wish they had another cheese omelet day. LOL They also alternated between bacon, pork sausage and turkey sausage. Fluffy biscuits and gravy was always available as was the waffle maker. They had nice fresh fruit of which their bananas were very good and not "overly ripened" as you see at some places. Apples were also available. Yogurts, cereal, milk of all types and oatmeal were also available as was pastries and breakfast breads along with many choices of spread. My favorite was the coffee station which was across the room away from the food counter #and crowds# and had ample amount of different creamers along with different choices of sweeteners.
As usual my room was very clean and roomy! I had a standard room which was two queen beds with a loveseat and kitchen area. It was a long bar #12 feet# with microwave, coffee maker, fridge and sink. They also provided paper towels, can opener, dish soap and of course coffees, teas and sweeteners. There was also an iron and ironing board. The bathroom was very roomy! There was about 4 big towels available along with ample lotions, shampoo and conditioners and two bathing soaps. The beds were nice. I found the mattress to be not very soft but not very hard, either. I slept very comfortably on it. The pillows on each bed consisted of two "soft" and two "firm" pillows. I like to sleep with two pillows so I used one soft and one firm so my neck felt great the next morning. There were electrical outlets everywhere #believe it or not I stayed in another hotel chain out in the middle of nowhere and their ONLY outlet in the room was BEHIND THE BED. Never look behind a hotel bed.....# The TV was a flat screen with multiple channels on top of a dresser #the furniture was new-ish which may not be said for some hotel chains#. They had a small desk for me to put my computer on. There was a LAN port there as well. If I had to complain about something of the room amenities it would be I wished the computer desk was slightly bigger. But that is not a big thing with me when determining hotels #I just wanted to complain about something so it doesn't look like I am the general manager posing as a guest, LOL#. Forgot to mention, in some rooms the ceiling is made to look like the milky way. Pretty neat!
Though I did not use the pool it looked nice! They have the hot tub connected to the pool #slightly above it separated by a stone wall#. I used the gym which had the basic amenities for someone wanting to get a light workout on the road. There was some dumb bells, an elliptical machine, a stationary bicycle and two treadmills. I did some walking on the tread mills. The belts were loose on them, but still usable. They had a TV in there with remote so I could watch what I wanted #I was the only one in there#. They had a cabinet with hand towels for sweat and sanitary wipes for cleaning the machines. Outside the gym they had a half-court basketball area which seemed a favorite for energized teenagers to burn off calories. LOL
All throughout the summer in the Clear Lake area there are youth baseball tournaments going on. So there was a lot of kids here. But there was also a lot of adults around to keep them in line. This was where Morgan came into play as she told me if I had any troubles with kids making loud noises to quickly give her a call and she would act upon the situation then and there #I had made small talk with her about all the kids at the hotel#. Luckily the kids were probably as tired as I was and pretty much settled down about the time I was going to bed. The walls of my room were thick enough that I didn't hear anything anyways. So that helped as well.
The only thing I do not like about this location is the roads getting to and from here. And I know it is not the Hotel's fault. There is a lot of construction going on along IH-45 at this time. Add to it mall and shopping traffic to make it somewhat bothersome to get to this location. But if you avoid the morning and afternoon rush hour traffic, you will be fine. The good thing is there is a LOT of restaurants around this location! So you will have many choices for lunch and dinner.
All in all, I love staying at the HIE Clear Lake location. It is close to where I have business and it is close to restaurants and other attractions to give me something to do in the evenings. I will be choosing this location again.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Spacefan Great service and bed, plus a Star Filled Ceiling!
I stayed in the King Suite which was very spacious and clean. The mattress was extremely comfortable. To boot, there was an entire ceiling of stars that only appeared at night, including Big and Little Dipper, a Milky Way, and a nebula in the other room. Was just like being on a mountain top and viewing the stars of a clear sky!
