I have been staying at the Holiday Inn now on a weekly basis for work. Overall the service is generally faultless.
On this particular occasion, when I booked the room over the phone as I have done before, the receptionist refused my payment card (the same card I have always used). She checked with her manager, who gave her the go ahead and she took my card details. On check-in, I was summoned back downstairs to reception as my payment card had been declined. The same card was presented, and all went through smoothly.
We also found the TV was not working on arrival. It was reported to reception (twice) who said they would send an engineer up soon. Over an hour later, nobody had arrived. As it was nearing midnight, and I had an early start, I really wanted to just relax and rest. Another call to reception found a change of staff and communication had failed. A team member was sent up immediately who checked over the TV and found the TV was not working....!! This commanded a room change, as we were there for 2 nights. TV was checked and working fine. Sleep beckoned....!!

Stayed for 2 nights with hubby and daughter. No deceptions whatsoever,to my mind good value for money and constantly cheerful reception.and bar staff.

Only stayed one night, but it was probably the best express hotel I have stayed in. Staff were professional and efficient. Room was clean, modern and comfortable.
