Our hotels in Longview put you within easy reach of the natural splendors of the East Texas Piney Woods and the laid-back pleasures of this small Texas city.
Longview's downtown district, near our Longview hotels, is a pleasant place to explore. Stop by the Gregg County Historical Museum to pick up an informative walking guide centered around Heritage Plaza. A series of historical markers highlight key events in the town's history, including the East Texas oil boom of the 1930s, when the discovery of "black gold" changed the town's fortunes. The 2.5-mile Cargill Long Park Trail in northeast Longview is a good place to stretch your legs. The trail is paved, and shade trees provide cover from the hot Texas sun. If you have a free afternoon, take the short drive to Caddo Lake State Park in nearby Karnack, where you can rent a canoe and paddle the lush bayous, sloughs and ponds under a canopy of thick bald cypress trees. For premier fishing, guests of our hotels in Longview drop a line in Lake O' the Pines.
Anchored by a historic clock tower on refurbished Tyler Street, downtown Longview is home to antique stores and shops. Restaurants here serve a variety of good-value burgers and pizzas. Downtown streets come to life in June for Alleyfest, a popular street fair featuring regional arts and crafts and evening concerts. Chain eateries and big box stores are located on the city outskirts on Loop 281 near our hotels in Longview, where you'll also find a cluster of bars and nightclubs.
Book a stay at our Holiday Inn Express® hotels in July for the Great Texas Balloon Race, when colorful balloons are launched into the brilliant blue East Texas sky. Visit in March to see the surrounding countryside abloom with flowering dogwoods.
