The beds are incredibly comfortable; I slept well every night on my week long stay. The showers were impressive with the large heads and generous stream of hot water. The shower was better than the one in my own house. The television had plenty of channels. The most enjoyable thing was the hospitality, the front desk was professional but approachable. They were very kind and seemed genuinely happy. The breakfast each morning was fantastic, plenty of options from cereal to hard boiled eggs, fruit, bacon, and even pancakes. Very good value in every way. The Holiday Inn in Lompoc exceeded my expectations.

I unfortunately booked this hotel as I've had a pleasant experience at every other Holiday Inn Express I've used. This hotel, however, would not offer a government rate for a particular room. After talking to them they agreed to charge a government rate and told me that I'd be tax exempt by showing my military ID and charging the room to my Government Travel Card.
A day later, the front desk attendant called and said the hotel owner would not honor the government rate and defaulted the rate to their rack rate (expensive rate). I couldn't cancel the reservation because it was not a government rate - if I did they'd charge me one night's stay! So they had me stuck.
Upon arrival to the hotel at midnight the front desk attendant told me should would not honor the tax exempt status either unless I used a special GTC with a code on the back show tax exempt. My GTC did not have this code so she said I'd have to jump through hoops to get tax exempt even though I showed my military ID, booked on the GTC, and showed her my military orders!
Seeing my frustration, she said, "Would you like me to cancel your reservation?" as my wife and kids stood there at 1am hoping to climb into bed soon. Of course they would still charge me one night's stay if I cancelled, so I stayed the night, but had to cancel the remaining nights. Needless to say, I didn't sleep well that night because of the ordeal and thinking I needed to find a new place to stay on short notice.
Fortunately, a close-by hotel accommodated me the next day, at the government rate, and gave me tax exempt status my simply signing my name to a paper!
I will never stay at the Holiday Inn Express (Lompoc) ever again because of the way they treat military.
