I stayed here twice during the past 6 weeks. Staff generally friendly and efficient - with one exception. Location is great if you're leaving from the airport and have a car. Without a car, it is a real pain. There is a bus which stops about 200m from the hotel, on the other side of the motorway, which means hauling suitcases over the 4 storey footbridge and then on an uneven road (with traffic) - there is no footpath - through a garage forecourt and a car park and along a service road, up and down kerbs, etc. etc. before arriving at hotel ! I personally would not recommend catching the bus. Although the hotel is next to the airport, walking there is not an option due to the many roads, motorways and trading estates that block your way. Getting back to the airport may be easier, as the bus stop is on the same side of the motorway as the hotel. However, whilst I was waiting for a friend to pick me up from in front of the hotel, I saw a guy with luggage walk back from the bus stop to the hotel, after apparently having waited a while. I asked him about the buses and he said they were supposed to be every 30 minutes but he'd been waiting for well over an hour and now had to go back to the hotel to phone for a taxi, as he was very close to missing his flight. As there is no shuttle bus, the only option is a taxi. They are supposed to charge €5.95 extra from trips to and from the airport but, in reality, charge €20 to the hotel and €15 from the hotel (but you have to push... they really want €20) for the 3 minute journey. Reception staff were jovial and efficient and Linda always seems to be happy and on the ball. My first room was unacceptable as it smelt like half a dozen Army guys had slept in there after a week's manoeuvres without a clothes change - and were still in the room. The replacement room was less whiffy, although just as hot - it also being on the airport side of the building, which gets the sun all day. Bed was adequate (just), pillows as useless as in most HIE hotels. Not really possible to relax, as the seating was uncomfortable, permanent noise from the airport but mainly the roads and housekeeping couldn't read the "do not disturb" sign on the door, despite it being written in Spanish ! Next morning : my wake-up call never happened, the rooms don't have alarm clocks, I woke up 1hr 40mins before my flight. Fortunately, I had already checked-in on-line and, after racing to and through the airport, I made my flight just as the last few pax were boarding. My second stay : room on airport side again. TV didn't work. Changed rooms to the "road" side of the hotel. These rooms are much cooler and the blackout curtains don't have to be closed all day for heat-protection unlike on the airport side. This makes for a better feel to the room. This room's TV stuck on Channel 2. After discovering it must be the remote control, this was changed and everything worked. I did, however, have to wait in my 1st room for someone to "check the TV" - nobody came after 20 minutes (I had gone to reception to inform "Mr Grumpy", who told me to go back to my room and wait.) Finally, I phoned down and got, as it turned out, his colleague, who turned out to be "Mr Happy" and, after apologising several times, sorted the rooms/TV out. He said he had not been informed by his colleague about my issue. No one offered to help carrying bags etc. to the new room. I even had to go and get my new room key from reception ! I finally got out of my street clothes and settled down to do some work - about an hour after I'd checked in. 20 minutes later, one of the housekeeping staff knocked and, almost simultaneously, entered my room ! There was no "knock once, say "housekeeping", wait, then repeat another 2 times, as is the acceptable procedure. No, just knock once and enter at the same time whilst shouting "HOUSEKEEPING" - despite the DO NOT DISTURB notice being hung on the door. She wanted the key, which had been cancelled, to my previous room ! (When I changed rooms, I had to block the door with a bag when carrying my belongings to the new room - something which the housekeeping staff saw, of course. Reception couldn't even let me use the old key whilst I changed rooms !) The old key was in the previous room, which the housekeeping staff could have seen if she'd have bothered to look. She then asked if I had finished with the previous room. Obviously a complete lack of communication between staff. I said that I had and I then showed her the DO NOT DISTURB sign hung on the door handle, to which she muttered something and just walked away. No excuses, no "sorry", nothing. Room cleanliness not the best, there was dust in every one of the 4 rooms I saw. Rest of the stay was uneventful. Wi-fi was adequate for emails. Beware : you are charged €5 for printing out your boarding pass at the hotel's public PC terminal in the foyer. Either send to Smartphone or, like me, if you don't have one, ask the reception if you can send it to them to print out. They will willingly do this but, of course, your private details remain on their server, probably forever ! Breakfast is okay, if you can find a clean table and can put up with all the shouting... it seems many Spanish people only ever shout at each other, "talking" is not the norm. Also, don't try to form a queue for breakfast items, it also appears that the Spanish do not like queuing for things - a sort of first come, first served idea - so you can fully expect to be elbowed out of the way. The previous night, I had stayed at another hotel just down the road (IHG's rules forbid mentioning hotels by brand) and, to get to the HIE, I ordered a taxi for the 2 minute journey. Although I questioned the driver about the tariff number and airport supplement on the meter, he said it was "normal" and the airport supplement is for "airport area"- It isn't, it's only for the airport itself. After paying the €13.45 demanded, I asked for a receipt and, when I checked in to the hotel, informed Linda of the incident. She immediately, and without asking, phoned the "taxi police" who took all the details and promised to get a refund from the taxi company in question, to be paid directly to the hotel. She then gave me €7.45 in cash, saying "it should have been no more than €6" !!! I've never been reimbursed a taxi ride by a hotel before, anywhere ! Great service. It's a pity the hotel's beds, rooms and amenities are nowhere near as good as the hotel just down the road. The prices are just about the same, although the HIE tends to be more expensive some of the time. My first visit to the HIE was a trial. My second was only as part of an IHG bonus points promotion, otherwise I would not have stayed here again. After my first visit, my IHG points and stay were not posted in my account so, as per IHG's protocol, I contacted IHG's Customer Services and they sorted this out within about 24 hours. The result was that I received an email from the hotel, stating their system doesn't always work and that I should have contacted them directly. It made me feel like a naughty schoolboy ! It took a further 3 or 4 emails to the hotel to convince them it was nothing personal but I had just followed IHG's protocol. After several emails and my "grovelling" (I had quickly identified that the quickest way to stop the ridiculous exchange of futile emails, was to say "yes" to everything) the person at the hotel who was pursuing this, was finally appeased. I was informed by IHG that points/stays should be posted "3 to 5 days after check-out". 10 days after my second stay, my 2nd stay/points had also not been posted to my account. Not wishing to encounter the wrath of the hotel staff again, I contacted them to report the matter. Two weeks after my stay, I am still waiting for the stay/points to be posted to my account. I'll give it another couple of days and will then have to contact IHG Customer Services if I don't get any joy. Lastly, during my various visits to the HIE Malaga Airport reception area, I overheard the hotel staff's replies to guests phoning from the airport asking the hotel to send its shuttle bus. As I said, they don't have a shuttle bus. If they did and if it were free, I could just about recommend this hotel... but only just. I would only stay again if I had to as part of a bonus scheme or if it had a Points Breaks deal or if there was no availability at my first choice hotel. As things stand, unfortunately I could not honestly recommend this hotel to others, especially as the neighbouring hotel - of another very well known chain - just 2 minutes down the road, is far superior in just about every way - their beds are REALLY comfortable. Both hotels are similar in price and the other hotel's computer system isn't useless : their stays/points are posted within 48 hours !

Great location. Getting to the right parking lot goes down a service road the GPS didn't know about. It was easy to see from the road so I could navigate by sight.
