There is a mildew/mold smell in most rooms.
The hotel staff is great, but they could not really do anything concerning the smell.
The hotel needs to have this problem professionally addressed since the problem seems to be embedded in the walls. It looked clean, but smelled bad.
The hallway entrance area has a permanently running air freshener machine maybe to mask the smell in the general common areas, but all three rooms I was shown had the same smell, some rooms worse than the other.
It was also a bit loud at night due to the activity of bars in the area. The hood is a little rough on the edges, but probably not unsafe.
I fixed the toilet seat when there since it was falling off.

Really enjoyed our stay. Reminded me of traveling in Europe. Same size of room but patio was excellent as had an outdoor space to enjoy the great weather in Dec! Staff was great, easy parking. Romantic stay for me and my wife. Restaurant was excellent and we ate there for all but one of our dinners. The only thing that was a minor inconvenience was the bathroom door. Light from the bathroom was still pretty bright if you were trying to sleep while someone was in the bathroom. This is our new SB hotel from now on. We are going back in Jan and have already booked our stay. I won't name our former SB hotel but we liked this one much better for the true boutique experience.

Even thought the room was relatively small it was sufficient, and even romantic. Loved the patio and the Blue Tavern restaurant was fantastic. We can't wait to go back. Only negative is less than private frosted glass bathroom door but not a problem when you have been married 26 years.

We arrived very late on a rainy night. The front desk personnel were very friendly and made us feel welcome. The one negative about our arrival is the fact that there is no elevator and the lift for luggage was out of order. Fortunately we only had carry on size luggage. The room we reserved was small but we are not big people so it was fine for us. We liked the modern and clean feel to it. The location is very convenient to one of the piers and the beach as well as the Funk Zone - an area with galleries, restaurants, etc. We were also within walkig distance of the Santa Barbara Zoo, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We also had a very good breakfast at the adjoining restaurant. There is good public transportation for those who do not choose to walk. The hotel happens to be right next to a train station but the trains evidently do not run in the middle of the night so we were not bothered by any noise. We would definitely stay here again.,

Nice that they allow pets, a very nice feature is that if you check in with a dog they give you a bag of treats/toy for the dog. Staff was wonderful. The layout of the hotel is odd because it is an old converted Hostel ("European Style").

Rated 1,0 out of 5,0 by Izzie98 cute hotel, but no thanks
When we were shown our room we almost fell over laughing! The king sized bed took the entire room, we had to crawl against the walls to get around. The closet was the size of a small trunk and the bathroom was microscopic!
Then there is the amtrak train tracks (therefore the trains) a few yards away. It starts service at 6:45 am and doesn't stop until late. Because the trains are going through an urban area, they have to use their blaring horns constantly...
Finally, sound insulation is nonexistent. Thus one can hear neighbors above and on either side of one's room.
If you are looking for a peaceful stay, choose another hotel.

Looking for a hotel in Santa Barbara that allowed dogs. This hotel was clean, friendly and accommodating. The room was a bit too small but had everything needed. The security access was nice. It was great having the dog treats out for pets to enjoy. There was also a wine mixer that we didn't participate in due to other plans but would have if available. Would definitely choose this hotel in the future over many of the others in Santa Barbara.

Aside from the noise from the train and smaller, "euro" style rooms.... the stay was great! The value wasn't really there but for this caliber of hotel, it was totally worth the expense for the location. Centrally located around everything and right next to the train station (a plus and minus).
