Hotel Indigo Glasgow

Hotel Indigo Glasgow

The dynamo district.

Originally built in the 1800s as one of the city’s very first power stations, a building that lit the path for Glasgow’s development, the Hotel Indigo® Glasgow hotel today puts you close to a new kind of buzz—local cuisine, world-class shopping, museums, historic theatres and sporting events. Our hotel’s design mixes Victorian architecture, high ceilings, and original brown brick with modern comfort. Murals by local artists line the walls, while our restaurant serves local dishes prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. It’s a great place to chat over a brew and look for the famous local Glaswegians depicted in the mural above diners’ heads.

    Neighborhoods

    Explore our neighborhood.

The first thing you’ll notice is the vibrant, eclectic feel of our neighborhood near the corner of Waterloo and Blythswood. There’s a powerful mix of modern and classical architecture here—it tells a rich story of a neighborhood transformed from a small merchant town into a burgeoning industrial city, a leader in shipbuilding, engineering, textiles and electrical generation. This boom led to Glasgow being known as “the second city of the Empire” after London, a moniker that lives today in our neighborhood’s importance in the business and financial sectors. At the center of it all is the old Power Station, the birthplace of electrical power in Glasgow, and home to our hotel.

    City Centre Public Art Trail

Look up to spot the wealth of late 19th- and early 20th-century architecture just outside the hotel by walking the City Centre Public Art Trail. A woman with a malting shovel stands tall at the United Distillers Building, while the massive red sandstone Mercantile Chambers is adorned with statues including Prosperity, Prudence, Industry and Fortune.

    City Centre Public Art Trail
    The Lighthouse

Some come to The Lighthouse because it reflects the best of Scotland’s architecture and design, and has free admission. Others pay homage to the late Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the building’s original designer. Climb the Centre’s helical staircase to the top of the tower, where you’ll see magnificent vistas of Glasgow’s turrets, spires and glass-sheathed towers.

    The Lighthouse
    Kilt makers

We treasure our Highland traditions, and there’s nothing like an authentic kilt. If you’d like to dress the part, we recommend two establishments within walking distance. MacGregor & MacDuff offer custom bespoke kilts and accessories; Slanj Kilts offers a bit more contemporary take on the tradition, including the option to design your own tartan.

    The Arches

Music, with or without a Glaswegian accent, can be heard at The Arches, where international and local bands perform in a unique venue beneath the Central Railway Station. A short walk from the hotel, The Arches is always jamming with music, however you might also catch a groundbreaking theatrical show or performance art piece from innovative Scottish artists.

    Brian Maule at Chardon d’Or

Considered by many as the best fine dining in the city, the restaurant treats guests to a gourmet menu steeped in the French tradition and infused with the finest Scottish produce. The unstuffy setting and seasonal menus are part of its charm, offering a sublime experience. We hear the lamb and fresh fish are exquisite, but be sure you indulge a little with dessert.

The hotel has a lovely exterior, welcoming reception and staff were very helpful and attentive. Rooms are very nice with a very large bed (Executive King Room) lovely Avidao products in the bathroom. Rooms Service was quick and food was good as was breakfast in our room both mornings. Would definitely recommend to others and will be staying again soon."
