The Old Oak Tree in the cemetery of Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church has withstood the test of time. A sapling when Columbus discovered the New World, this mighty White Oak was already 400 years old when George Washington is said to have picnicked with Lafayette during the American Revolution under its spreading branches. There are as many legends about the tree as there are branches, including an erroneous report that Betsy Ross is buried beneath it.
