Europe's best attractions for family fun
Many of our hotels are ideally situated for visiting Europe’s attractions. Popular theme parks are Gardaland beside Lake Garda in northern Italy and the enormous PortAventura in northern Spain. Efteling is the Netherlands’ largest theme park and loved by small children, whilst Legoland Windsor and London’s Natural History Museum are big favourites in the UK, and both are close to our Holiday Inn Hotels where Kids Stay & Eat Free. But the crown must go to the most visited of all Europe’s attractions – Disneyland Paris at Marne la Vallée. Packed with so much to see and do, you may need to stay another day.
Sun and relaxation wherever you are
Just as Europe’s many coastlines are full of sunny beaches, so too are some of its much-loved cities. On the banks of the Vltava River is Prague’s urban beach, a popular spot for kicking back and soaking up the sun. Whilst for culture, sports, kids’ activities and concerts, there’s perhaps no urban beach better than that found in Brussels. For peace and tranquillity, escape to the mountains of Andorra, head to Dijon with its impressive Grand Palace and cathedral or stroll the narrow pedestrian of the Old Town in Bratislava. They’re all perfect places to relax, unwind and enjoy summer – so maybe stay an extra day.
Searching for history and culture
Discover a treasure trove of ruins, museums and amazing architecture this summer with a visit to Rome – once the most powerful city and civilisation in history. Travel to Barcelona – renowned for its stunning churches and museums, or to York in the UK for an impressive collection of Viking and Roman artefacts. Explore the gothic beauty of Prague, home to the largest castle in Europe or visit Berlin, a city of cultural cool, teeming with galleries, museums, bars and famous landmarks.
A summer of romance
There’s no shortage of European cities that ooze romance in the summertime. From moonlit strolls along the beaches of Naples to gliding in gondolas on the canals of Venice, you can enjoy moments that will remain treasured forever. Steal a kiss in the hidden corners of the gardens of the Musée Rodin in Paris, or travel to Budapest, the Paris of the East, and stroll hand-in-hand through streets lined with Baroque and art nouveau architecture. For something more dramatic and windswept, visit scenic Killarney in Ireland for beautiful views across its three lakes.
Have a bigger adventure
Sitting round a pool is not everyone’s idea of fun. Many of us see summer as a time for getting out and doing things. Like jumping on a mountain bike and riding along Bilbao’s coastal paths and hilltops in northern Spain. If you’re into water sports, head north form Lisbon in Portugal and experience the thrill of kite surfing. For an adventure on horseback, saddle up in Macedonia and discover the beautiful Mavrovo National Park or enjoy a more leisurely pace pony-trekking in Aberdeen, Scotland. Alternatively, if you prefer to keep your feet on terra firma, the lower mountain ranges of Grenoble provide excellent hiking and breath-taking views.
