The hotel itself was fine -- neat, clean, with modern amenities. The beds were comfortable and we slept well. The staff was very friendly and spoke good English. The breakfast was enjoyable, with a[More]
variety of fresh pastries, fruit, breads, meat and cheese. Our waiter also offered us fresh yogurt in multiple flavors. An espresso/coffee machine works well but is the only coffee source so we had to wait our turn to get coffee.
Here, unfortunately, are the negatives.
- The hotel is a 30 minute tram ride from downtown Rome. It takes an additional 10 minutes to get from the hotel to the tram at a fast walking pace. So figure 45 minutes each way to get to the sights of Rome. The trams are crowded at rush hours, so plan on standing most of the way.
- The area that the hotel is in is not the best. As others have said, the streets are trashy, and you have to pass smelly dumpsters on the way. The sidewalks are non-existent in some places, making it difficult to negotiate the curbs with baggage.
- The directions for getting to the hotel that we were sent prior to arriving were totally incorrect. We were told to take the metro, but the directions after exiting the metro were actually those for exiting the tram. We wasted an hour looking at maps and attempting to converse with locals (who only spoke Italian) before calling the hotel, at which time we were told to take bus 450. Taking the bus requires buying a ticket a a local tobacco shop, but we were not told this by the hotel staff. Our first day in Rome was very challenging, and frustration could have been avoided had the instructions from the hotel been correct and comprehensive.
We did save money by using IHG points for a free stay, but it was not worth it, for the reasons mentioned above. Had we been able to stay at the HIE San Giovanni near the Termini, we would have done so, but they were booked. For anyone wanting to see Rome and make every minute count, I would not recommend this hotel. [Less]
Everything about the hotel exceeded my expectation. The room was large, modern and clean. There was also a pleasant balcony. Despite its proximity to a major railway station, the room was quiet[More]

As with all good brands you should know what to expect and I was not disappointed by my stay here. The staff were friendly and professional, the public areas clean, tidy and comfortable and the room[More]
was a good size with all the facilities you might need - electrical connections, TV, WiFi etc. the bathroom was clean and a good size.
Couple of points to mention. The WiFi is a bit slow and struggles with high data content streaming/downloads. I stayed in an Executive room on the 3rd floor and was surprised at the amount of noise I could hear from adjoining rooms - guest booking a rental car from his mobile phone is an example. However he was very loud! I would stay here again despite that, on the basis it is convenient for the airport and where I need to be when in Rome on business and I slept well. [Less]
