Very good for an Express
It was great to find an HI Express in a small town like Foligno. While it may be away from the normal tourist resorts Foligno is well worth a visit for the authentic Italian experience and staying at
the HI Express means you get all the benefits of an International hotel at a very reasonable cost.
The staff are very friendly, welcoming, seem genuinely pleased to see you (I have stayed there for 10 weeks in preference to a very nice and only slightly more expensive boutique hotel nearby). The breakfast is OK, so as a free one at an HI Express it is in real terms pretty good and the atmosphere is convivial.
They segregate large groups from the normal guests so the only problem they cause is if you arrive while 50 youngsters are trying to get their suitcases to their rooms, but just sit at the bar for 10 minutes and it's back to normal, or use the stairs. [Less]
relaxing stay in HIE Foligno
Holiday Inn Foligno is a small friendly hotel on the outskirts of the town.
Access: I arrived by train (less than 2 hours from Roma Termini) at Foligno station. Walking to the hotel is easy and takes
you through the old town with many historical buildings and a great selection of shops and restaurants on predominately pedestrianised streets. The hotel is a relaxing 2.5km stroll from station.. there are also Taxis...
You can also fly to Perugia or Florence and grab a train from there. Perugia is just 30 minutes away by frequent trains. Hotel is just 1km outside city walls opposite the Hospital with frequent busses also. Hotel is perfectly located for exploring this part of Umbria with historic tourist towns of Assici, Spello and Spoleto within 15mins by regular trains.
Location: Hotel is opposite regional Hospital, next to Coop supermarket and a variety of restaurants which are open until late.. You dont have to go back to town for pizza or pasta as 'winners' restaurant is just 30m from the hotel for GREAT pizza! Foligno town has a huge selection of restaurants of all standards and some of the best ICE CREAM parlours in Italy!
Reception: Friendly efficient staff.. (Special mention for Andrei who really knew his job) seamless check in, reception is staffed 24/7 and has a small good bar attached. there are also vending machines for cold drinks and snacks plus a dining, TV, reading area with lots of local tourist info. Hotel also hires out bicycles for €5 per day (which is great as there is an extensive network of cycle lanes in Foligno and you can even cycle to Spello or Assisi easily). There is also a business centre area with fast computer and printing, photocopying facilities. wifi internet is fast and reliable. International newspapers can be ordered also and available to collect from reception each morning.
Room: Clean, fresh with good king beds, couches, chair, flatscreen TV (with both cable and satelite channels so lots of english networks and movies free).. Bathroom is big with shower, toilet, bidet etc. Shower gels and amenities provided plus fresh towels etc. there is a fridge in each room for personal drinks and food and a complimentary bottle of water is already cooled upon arrival. All rooms are air conditioned which is on and the room nice and cool upon arrival.
Amenities.. as an HI express there are little or no amenities.. there is no garden but there are lots of walks in the area. the hotel doesnt have a restaurant but there are good ones nearby and great ones in the town just 1km away. the hotel also has meeting rooms for business..
Breakfast: the complimentary self service breakfast is extensive with juice, coffee, tea, water, breads and croissants, cakes, cereals, Yoghurts, cold meats and cheeses, fresh fruit, a small selection of freshly cooked hot dishes but overall more than enough for a substantial meal. Restaurant Staff are very friendly.
Overall: great value for money, good location especially for exploring Umbria, Friendly efficient staff and relaxing clean accomodation. [Less]
Modest hotel in hospitable Umbria
Located on the suburb of a small Foligno. At 300 m there is the supermarket COOP. From the hotel to the city center - about 15 minutes by walk. Hotel is adjacent to habited quarters, in the next
entrances - minikafe and minimarket. In the evenings, when the windows are open, there is noisy from local fans dominoes and beer.
The hotel has an outdoor parking for 3 cars under videosurveillance, are often already occupied, but nearby there is always an unoccupied places.
The hotel is friendly to animals, what informs the banner at the entrance and treats at the reception.
Small lobby adjacent to the openspace restaurant with a large LCD. During breakfast you can watch the news in Italian. Breakfast is rustic, unvariety, unheated - no fried eggs, a bit of fresh fruit, but there is delicious. Do not go hungry.
Rooms are small and compact. No bathrooms, only a shower. Clean, neat.
Very slow elevator, one on all five floors.
Ice machine alone, next to the reception. Delicious cappuccino at 1.2 euros at the reception.
Very friendly porter service.
Tourist groups use with pleasure this inexpensive hotel for overnight stays while travelling on long distance.
The hotel is convenient to travel by car through Umbria and southern Tuscany. There are plenty of interesting places and restaurants masterpiece. Cute old town.
Very beautiful nature. [Less]
