most unique Holiday Inn!!
This hotel is worth visiting just for the amazing architecture in its construction alone.. Designed as part of the Vulcano Buono centre by STarchitect Renzo Piano (who also did the 'Shard' in[More]
London!) its design will leave you impressed.
Location: for those with a car its easy to access via a major motorway A30/A16.. for those on foot like us, its best to get the train to Nola (Trenitalia from Salerno) or the Circumvusivio train from Naples Garibaldi to Nola (different station!) Only way to Hotel from here is by taxi which the hotel will arrange for 15euro flat fare. (pay the driver directly upon arrival at hotel)
Hotel: Incredible! You approach what looks like a small Volcano! covered in shrubbery and grass. the carpark around it (2000cars) gives away its disguise. Entry to the hotel is along a drive cut out of the side of the Vulcano. reception is huge, 3 floor high ceiling, spacious and bright with open plan Bar, Lounge, Restaurant, seating area.
Reception and Check in: Staff had poor English, there was no welcome or even hello (though we tried our best Italian!). We were allocated room on second floor.. no info on amenities or services.. key allocated and lift gestured to. (to be fair we had emailed the hotel previous day ref; transport from Nola and the replies were friendly and courteous and in perfect English)
Room: was stylish but surprisingly small.. this is because over 40% of the room space is the outside balcony! There was no balcony furniture.. (this was only for guests on the 3rd floor!) Room was spotlessly clean and neat but missing the usual Holiday Inn touches of pen and paper, real glasses (they were plastic!) and had one sad childlike piece of art. TV had one English channel but the fast wifi made up for this. Beds were very comfortable and there was no noises or rumbling to be heard though we were in the middle of a shopping mall/volcano! A/C worked perfectly (and silently)
Bathroom.. Large (in comparison to the bedroom) clean and big soft towels and good range of hygiene products.
Meals: with a such a huge shopping centre attached, we didn't eat dinner at the hotel but at some of the many restaurants in the Mall. We did have breakfast which was extensive. Service was friendly and prompt though it was self service.. BIG buffet of everything with good range of hot cooked food, bacon, sausage, eggs etc plus lots of local cold meats and cheese. Unlimited quantities of all including great selection of pastries and cakes.. Best breakfast of our trip so far!
Location 2: The Vulcano has over 100 shops and restaurants so shoppers and foodaholics will have a great time. there is also a cinemaplex with latest movies and a HUGE gym, with pool etc (15€ extra for hotel guests). Shops and supermarket (Auchan) are open til 10pm.. Nothing to see outside of the hotel unless you go hillwalking 4 kms away.. or go back to Nola for train to Naples (35minutes) or Salerno (30 minutes). Nola town is small and quaint with some Basilica and other buildings of interest.
Overall very interesting Hotel and a comfortable stay but staff should learn a short checklist of services to explain to guest who don't speak Italian and 2 chairs on the balcony would have been nice to sit out on for some fresh air. Other than that an enjoyable experience. [Less]
It was a wonderful experience. .... I'm definitely going back.[Less]

arriving in Naples
When we arrived at Naples airport, we could have waited for the shuttle to take us direct to the Holiday Inn however, we decided to take a taxi - the driver was most helpful and informative about the[More]
city. When we arrived at the hotel, we were met with quick, efficient and friendly service.
We had a room with a fantastic view. The room was made up as a family room however the porter promptly came and removed the camp bed for our convenience. The room was clean and freshly made up but a couple of items from a provious guest had been left in the room.
We had a nice evening meal and relaxed with a glass of wine in the restaurant on the terrace. We used the shuttle service to visit the city centre the following day. It is wise to get a note of the times that the shuttle runs as soon as you arrive in order to make the most of this facility and to plan your available time. Staff were helpful and informative on checkout. We would definitely return to this hotel - it was a great start to our holiday.
We didn't mind that the hotel was not in the centre - there were cafes and shops around the conference centre and the hotel's location meant that it was quiet enabling a good night's sleep. [Less]

Our hotel room and the staff were WONDERFUL. The location is a but undesirable, but hey, it's Naples. We had a very nice dinner at the restaurant next door (literally, 6' away) and heard from our[More]
friends that the hotel restaurant we nice (they ate dinner & breakfast there). The hotel was "full" so it took more than 30-mins to get the elevator to the lobby, and we had to get there REALLY early to get on the FREE shuttle. We (only 2 of us) left the room at 8:15 AM, but weren't together in the lobby until almost 9:00 AM. [Less]
