Stayed for one night and honestly could not find any fault with the whole stay. Spotlessly clean, friendly helpful staff, comfy bed, excellent breakfast. And fab value for money! Recommend it to[More]
"Decent stay ruined by staff refurbishing the floor we were on"
My wife and I were staying in Aberdeen to visit some friends and decided to stay at the Holiday Inn as we've always found them to be excellent. As a bonus, breakfast was included along with some[More]
bonus IHG points which made it good value for money.
Check-in was quick and painless, as is the case with IHG properties we've stayed at previously.
The room we had was a decent size with a nice room with separate bath and shower cubicle. As with the room, everything was spotless and of good quality. The internet was reliable and fast enough for general web browsing and checking emails etc.
We had dinner at a nearby restaurant which I must recommend (Mamma Mia) but the hotel has it's own restaurant if you just wanted to eat in the hotel instead. I believe it's called Luigi's.
After a late night with our friends, we retired to the room to look forward to a decent night's sleep before returning home the following day.
Sadly, we were awoken by hotel staff refurbishing the room at 6am. Since we were staying on a Sunday, this was a surprise. I couldn't get back to sleep but really didn't see the point in complaining since we'd be waking up a few hours later anyway. I sat reading the paper but the slamming doors and voices was considerable and later found they were refurbing most of the floor. I'm not normally one to get flustered or bother but I did find it of great annoyance that they should be doing this at such an early hour on a Sunday morning. Not only that, but the lady at reception not telling us this would occur when checking in. I would also say that the soundproofing of the room was poor - we could hear pretty much everything going on in the hallway, right down to the footsteps.
Breakfast was included in our room rate and I must say it was exquisite: plenty of selection of hot foods, with typical cold meats and breads in addition. The food was of good quality in a nice ambiance. After the sleepless morning, we didn't really want to leave the quite of the breakfast room.
One bad experience at a HI certainly won't put me off - I've stayed at many of their other properties without any problems and understand it was likely just a one-off but would really have appreciate being told about the upcoming refurbishment work the following day so we could request a room on a different floor. Therefore, if I'm in Aberdeen again, I would likely stay here again, though enquire there is no refurb work going on first! [Less]
