The Miller Park baseball stadium has hosted games for the Milwaukee Brewers since April 6th, 2001. An imposing structure, it is notable for its 12,000 ton roof. In approximately ten minutes, the fan-shaped, dome-like roof can retract or expand to cover the whole stadium. Not only does it protect the audience and players from Wisconsin’s unpredictable weather, but it also insulates the stadium, keeping the temperature about 30 degrees warmer than the surroundings outside.
Ever since former President George W. Bush threw the ceremonial first pitch, Miller Stadium has served as a site for community gathering and entertainment.
Things to Do at Miller Park
The most common pastime at Miller Park is simply to watch the Brewers play baseball, but visitors can also participate in numerous other activities, like the 5K Famous Racing Sausages race. Runners (or walkers, if they prefer), start at Miller Park with mascots dressed in a variety of costumes, including a baseball player. Even if you don't participate, you can still cheer on the runners. Money for tickets goes to various health and educational ventures around the town.
If visitors aren’t overly enthusiastic about baseball, they might also consider going to the park to catch a concert. This year, several artists are booked, including Run DMC, Foreigner, the David Crowder Band, and Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z performing together.
Of course, a baseball stadium would not be complete without concessions, and Miller Park offers plenty (including gluten free food). Most of the food served is typical baseball fare, such as corn dogs, hot dogs, and chili, but visitors can also get waffles if they're in the mood.
Parking at the Field
For cars, the price of general parking varies, depending on whether the purchaser orders the ticket in advance and whether the game takes place on a weekend. Preferred parking costs more. Motorcycles can park at General Lot for the same price as cars, but bus parking is much more expensive.
Cyclists can reach the stadium by the Hank Aaron State Trail, which connects to the Lake Michigan lakefront, and bicycle racks are available at select locations around the stadium.
