Located in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, the Target Center is a unique multi-use arena. This over 830,000 square foot arena is home base for the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves and the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx.
In addition to hosting these popular basketball games, Target Center also serves as an excellent entertainment venue for a variety of concerts and family acts, other sporting events, graduations, and even private events such as family weddings.
A unique feature of the Target Center is its ability to easily convert into a 2,500- to 7,500-seat theater. This theater is known as the U.S. Bank Theater and includes a moving floor-to-ceiling curtain arrangement that transforms the venue. In addition to the aforementioned concerts, this conversion makes it the ideal venue for family and Broadway shows.
Planning on a visit to the Target Center on your next Minneapolis vacation? Here's some interesting background and fun facts to know before you go!
It took 27 months and approximately $104,000,000 to build the grandiose Target Center. Upon opening its doors on October 13, 1990, it was the first major arena within the United States to be entirely non-smoking, with a prohibition against tobacco ads- and remains such to this day. While Target paid $18.75 million for exclusive 15-year naming rights, Target Center is owned by the city of Minneapolis, and its day-to-day operations are managed by AEG Facilities (Anschults Entertainment Group).
