The Midwest may not immediately bring to mind chills and thrills, but at Kings Island Amusement Park, there are plenty of both. Located in Mason, Ohio, Kings Island is the Midwest's largest amusement park, spanning over 360 acres, and is the second-most visited seasonal amusement park in the US.
It features over 80 rides, an extensive water park area, and several live and recorded shows throughout the day.
For those travelling with children, you should know that Kings Island has received Amusement Today’s “Best Kids’ Area” award every year since 2001, for their Planet Snoopy area.
One of the most popular and best-known rides is "The Beast," a roller coaster that set many records when it was built, and is still the world’s longest wooden roller coaster. Over the last three decades, The Beast has been ridden by more than 45 million people.
What Kings Island Offers
At first glance, Kings Island may look like any other amusement park. However, there are plenty of unique additions that make the park special.
There are the other exhilarating coasters, including Banshee, which is the world’s longest inverted coaster, The Bat, The Racer, Vortex, and Flight of Fear.
Each section of the park features non-coaster rides, as well. Popular options include the WindSeeker swings that reach 30 mph, Monster, Delirium, and Drop Tower: Scream Zone.
Looking for classic fun without all the screaming? Check out Dodgems. Each of the old-school bumper cars on this ride comes straight from Italy.
If you’re looking to cool off during the summer, the Soak City area has 33 acres of water fun comprising two giant wave pools, loads of water slides, and more than a few children’s areas for the kids to splash around in.
And, of course, for the smallest riders in the family, Planet Snoopy has over 15 Peanuts-themed rides. Ranging from log flumes to roller coasters, each one is designed to keep the kids happy and smiling all day long.
The park is easily accessible by highway in Mason, Ohio. Open from mid-April until Labor Day, getting around Kings Island is easy.
There is a huge parking complex that has plenty of space for those who travel by car. Nearby hotels offer shuttle service to the front gates that can make it even easier to get there. Once you arrive at the park, it is just a short walk to the fun.
