Disneyland is Walt Disney’s quintessential amusement park. Originally conceived as an attraction for visitors to Disney’s movie studio, the park has morphed into an 85 acre complex in Anaheim, California. Located southeast of Los Angeles and opened in 1955, the original Disneyland site is now the Disneyland Resort campus featuring the Disneyland Park, Disney’s California Adventure theme park, and the shopping and dining mecca, Downtown Disney.
One of Disneyland’s defining features is its “Lands” - named sections of the park containing themed rides, shows, characters and dining. These include Main Street USA, Adventureland, Tomorrowland, New Orleans Square, Frontierland, Critter Country, Fantasyland, and Mickey’s Toontown. High quality live entertainment enhances each theme and adds to the experience. Parades between lands occur daily.
If it seems like it could take more than a day to experience everything Disneyland has to offer, you're right. Here's a small sampling of what you can see and do in the park if you stay for a couple days.
This beloved Disney train is always popular and one of the park’s remaining original attractions. Turn of the century themed train cars make a full loop around the park with stops along the way, so you can see the park in its entirety, rest your feet, and plan the rest of your day, all at the same time!
Disneyland is known for its exciting rides based on popular movies. From the original kids ride, Dumbo, to classic thrillers like Space Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean, Disneyland rides are always a highlight.
Of course, the more popular rides can attract long lines. If you want to skip to the front, check out Disney’s FastPass system. Available for most attractions, this system gives riders an hour window in which to ride, bypassing long waits.
Disneyland Monorail System
Opened in 1959 the Disneyland Monorail was groundbreaking as the first daily-use monorail in the US. Shuttling between Downtown Disney and Tomorrowland, it’s a great way to view the park from above, and in air-conditioned comfort too!
Like most things in California, getting to the park by car is easiest. Disneyland is accessible via the Santa Ana Freeway. If you’d rather take public transportation, the park can be reached by Orange County Transit Authority bus route #430.

parked onsite the next day when she drove over to join me for breakfast. the mattress was super comfy, the room quiet (we had a room overlooking the parking lot facing Disneyland) we COULD hear the 9pm fireworks in the distance, but otherwise was quiet. the pool was clean and accessible. the Bistro onsite had friendly staff and good food. there is a mall nearby (~~100 yds )w/ a lot of restaurants of which Roys is most excellent!
