Initially named St. Vincent’s College, DePaul University is the nation's largest Catholic University. The school got its original name because founders were known Vincentians, meaning that they followed the teachings of French priest who vowed to serve the children of immigrants. Although the name changed later, DePaul continues a similar mission today by serving and educating disadvantaged students.
The university’s main campus sits just north of the city in the historic Lincoln Park community and includes a state-of-the-art theater building with the Fullerton Stage and the Sondra & Denis Healy Theatre.
Facts About DePaul:
DePaul is home to the Blue Demons, NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletic teams that play basketball, softball, lacrosse, hockey, tennis and volleyball. The men’s basketball team has made it to the Final Four twice, been to the NCAA tournament 22 times and the NIT tournament 16 times.
DePaul is a not-for-profit organization and ranked in the top tier of national schools. The Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index lists the doctoral program No. 1 in the nation. The school offers around 300 undergraduate and graduate degrees. All programs emphasize the importance of service in their curriculum, as well. DePaul's Lincoln Park campus covers 36 acres. They also have a campus in Chicago’s famous Loop district.
