Smack dab in the heart of London is the iconic and world famous Hyde Park. First opened in 1637, Hyde Park is one of the largest parks in London. Over the years Hyde Park has become synonymous with public speaking and demonstrations in London. In fact, these demonstrations have become so popular that Hyde Park has a designated area known as the Speakers' Corner that allows for open debate, protest, and discussion.
Stretching more than 600 acres, Hyde Park has been the site for many famous rock concerts and musical performances. In 1969, it is estimated that nearly 200,000 people flocked to Hyde Park to listen to a concert by the Rolling Stones. In addition to the Stones, artists like Bon Jovi, U2, and Queen have all made appearances in Hyde Park.
Hyde Park is known for having a 40-acre lake known as the Serpentine. This area of Hyde Park is open to the public for swimming and boating. In addition, Hyde Park has numerous areas that are set aside for all types of activities ranging from baseball, soccer, or tennis to horseback riding.
No matter the time of day you visit, expect to see beautiful foliage, kids screaming with laughter, and couples enjoying romantic picnics on the ground.
