What's more awe-inspiring and powerful than a waterfall? How about three waterfalls in one place, generating highest flow rate of any other falls in the world?
That’s what you get at Niagara falls, a breathtaking tourist attraction that straddles the United States/Canada border.
What is Niagara Falls
Many people don't realize this, but Niagara Falls is actually three individual waterfalls: American Falls, Horseshoe Falls and Bridal Veil Falls. Horseshoe Falls is almost entirely on the Canadian side of the divide, and is the strongest waterfall in North America. American and Bridal Veil Falls are on the American side.
They’re all located at the end of the Niagara river and dump water into Lake Ontario.
Niagara Falls, as a city, has a presence in both Canada and the United States. Each has a number of hotels, tourist attractions and restaurants. The falls are a popular destination for weddings, so there are many wedding related venues located near the falls (on both sides).
In addition to being a fun place to visit, the power of the falls is harnessed to create power too. One of the biggest challenges for those who manage the falls is balancing the commercial, recreational and industrial uses of something as large as Niagara Falls.
Visiting Niagara Falls
Since there is plenty to see on both sides of the US/Canada line, residents of either country may find a visit to the park enjoyable. There are federally managed parking areas on site and nearby hotels and motels offer shuttle services for their customers. There is a bridge that connects Niagara Falls, NY and Niagara Falls in Canada, so visiting both sides is common.
Whether you choose to go to experience its natural beauty, learn more about the hydroelectric power generated by this enormous landmark or plan a wedding at this popular destination, it is worth visiting at least once. If you have time, visiting both the Canadian and American side of the falls will allow you to see the full effect of them.
