Built in 1979, Thorpe park is located on the site of the old Thorpe Estate. Although it was originally an open-air exhibition venue, it has grown since the 1980s into a full-fledged park of thrills. Most of the park centers around water-based excitement. However, the 2002 addition of the record-breaking roller coaster Colossus, solidified the park’s place among the top theme parks of the UK.
Things to Do at Thorpe Park
One of the most exciting things about Thorpe Park is the huge water area. In addition to all the exciting traditional thrill rides, the large number of water rides that allow visitors to stay cool and enjoy splashes during the summer months. You can go river rafting on jaunts like Storm Surge and Rumba Rapids. Or you can take a spin the Loggers Leap log flume.
If you’re looking for a little more excitement in the, be sure to check out the Tidal Wave, which was the tallest water ride in Europe when it opened in 2000.
When you’re done with water, Thorpe Park has plenty of other adventures for you. There’s the park’s first major roller coaster-- Colossus, featuring 10 intense loops and incredible speeds. The park also has six other coasters, including X, Nemesis Inferno, and The Swarm.
If you finish all the coasters but still need more excitement, be sure to check out Detonator, a 35m tall tower that can reach 50mph. Still need more? Check out Samurai and Vortex.
When you’re done with the rides, the park offers plenty of things to view during your walk through the park: a 4D film, club nights for adults only and "Fright Nights" themed around ghosts and goblins in the Halloween season.

It is very easy to reach the park by car or rail and there are shuttles available from nearby train stations, bus stops and hotels. If you drive, there is an on-site parking area available for an additional charge.

As usual Holiday Inn do not seem to be hearing comments around the expense[More]
of food and drinks in particular breakfast costs. My family ate off site at the Harvester Restaurant at a much reduced price. The restaurant at the holiday inn was mostly empty.
I did eat an evening meal there and found the food to be rather unexciting for the price and very poor portion sizes with some 'misdescriptions' around the food on the menu itself. Drinks prices were crazy which is not great if you are planning to meet there with a gathering of people. [Less]
