The versatile Anaheim Convention Center is the largest event space on the West coast. It hosts basketball tournaments, the Anime Expo, and was even the site of all the wrestling events for the 1984 Olympics.
But many people don’t know that the center was built specifically for basketball. In fact, the city of Anaheim built the convention center in the 1960s as the home for the now defunct American Basketball Association team, the Anaheim Amigos.
Since then, the city has renovated and expanded the center to accommodate modern events and conferences, and it now provides space for more than 9,000 guests at a time.
Because the venue was originally designed for basketball games, it still features a regulation court setup. Subsequently, ACC has hosted NBA, NCAA, and small league games throughout the year. It even served as an alternative host location for LA Clippers for several games in the 90s.
With over 800,000 square feet of exhibit space and 200,000 square feet of lobby space inside, ACC is also a popular location for non-sports events. The Anime Expo and Blizzard Gaming's BlizzCon have brought fans in droves to this location, while NAMM (an insider-only music equipment show) has attracted some of the largest crowds in recent years.
In addition to these consumer-friendly events, the ACC regularly hosts nationally-recognized medical and scientific events.
Visiting the Center
Located across from the Disneyland resort, the Anaheim Convention Center is surrounded by dining and amusement options. If you get into town early or plan to stay a little later, you could take in everything that Disney has to offer.
If you’re not up for a day of Disney, the center is surrounded by steakhouses and other legendary eating options, like Bubba Gump Shrimp Co, so you can relax with a good meal before heading to bed.
Because it hosts events drawing people from all over California and the nation, there is plenty of parking at the facility. However, there is local transport as well. The Metrolink trains connect to the Anaheim Resort Transit buses. These buses provide service to the ACC as well as other nearby locations. Additionally, many nearby hotels cater to convention attendees and thus have shuttle service directly to the front doors.
Those seeking top-notch regional cuisine need not leave the hotel's location in Long Beach. California cuisine is the specialty at the Panorama Grill Restaurant & Lounge, and patrons love the skyline...
