Sitting off the busy European tourist route is Lithuania, a northern European country with cozy towns, lakes and historic and religious sites. This charming country provides more than enough reasons for travelers to visit. Vilnius, the Lithuanian capital, has a good selection of cafes and museums. It also has the Vilnius Cathedral, St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church and Vilnius Castle Complex, all of which are worth a visit. The tallest structure here is the Vilnius TV Tower, which has an observation deck with a rotating floor. About 30 minutes from Vilnius is Trakai. This beautiful redbrick castle sits on a lake that’s always filled with ducks. A couple hours north of Vilnius is the Hill of Crosses. It’s a huge religious shrine, as well as a Soviet protest monument. If you have time, check out the lakes in the Trakai National Park and the Zemaitija National Park.
