Situated on the western edge of San Diego city, La Mesa, CA shares much of this much-loved city’s charm and vibrancy but, as the locals will argue, has better weather. La Mesa is named after the Spanish phrase for its geographical nature, “the plateau,” and is 12 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. This means that the clouds that often blanket the coast are rare in this sunny destination, and that La Mesa is a warm and dry place to visit in any season.
La Mesa is known as the ‘Jewel of the Hills’. As the 10th biggest city in San Diego county, it boasts everything from a quaint downtown village to the easily accessible Mission Trails Regional Park, home to 40 miles of well-maintained routes. Within the park sits Lake Murray - a beautiful reservoir that's perfect for everything from bicycling and jogging, to rollerblading and walking. Or, if you're looking for a less energetic activity, it's also the ideal spot for a picnic and a good read.
While you’re in town, take a good look at the city’s events calendar, which is always jam-packed with festivals and cultural opportunities. With 200,000 attendees, Oktoberfest is the biggest festival, but you’ll find something to suit all tastes year round.
From idyllic, tree-lined streets to bustling shopping districts, La Mesa is an ideal escape from every day life. To make the most of your stay, book a room in a comfortable and affordable IHG La Mesa hotel, where friendly staff are happy to provide insider tips into must-see attractions. the pool and had remodeled the lobby. They added a weight machine to the exercise room. The only draw back is a bit of traffic noise if you open the window on the west side of the building. East side rooms do not seem to have as much traffic noise. But the price remains a bargain either way and access to area is great. [Less]
