Destin is well known for its white sand beaches, deep emerald waters and open skies. Known as the “World’s Luckiest Fishing Village”, Destin began as a small fishing town and grew into a year-round vacation hotspot. If you’re bringing your furry friends along for the trip, you’ll also find that the city has great opportunities to get out and enjoy the sun with your pets.

While the beaches in the city do not allow animals, many of the state parks have fantastic open areas for walking, jogging and playing. Henderson Beach State Park is a favorite, with a scenic nature trail that showcases the coastal dune ecosystem and has dozens of great photo opportunities. The Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park welcomes dogs and other well-mannered pets, offering great views of the Choctawatchee Bay shoreline. If you have your heart set on a day at the beach with your pet, a day trip to one of the pet-friendly beaches of Franklin County may be just the ticket.

Let your pet run free at the Destin Dog Park, where leash-free fun can be had and a separate area is provided for small dogs. If you’re looking to spend a day out on the ocean, take your pet along on a pontoon rental with a pet-friendly provider for a splash in the waves with the entire family. Stroll around HarborWalk village, an outdoor mall with dozens of boutique shops, live entertainment and weekly fireworks displays. Baytowne Wharf offers more chances to shop, grab a snack and take your pets for a walk.

When you’ve worked up an appetite, several outdoor and open-air restaurants along Harbor Boulevard and Legendary Drive cater to travelers with pets - some may even bring your four-legged companions water without being asked. Tip back a fruity concoction or savor the day’s freshly caught seafood.

While your pet may not be able to join you, Destin offers several fantastic opportunities to relax, explore and while away the hours. The obvious highlights are the sugar sand beaches, with fine white sand and shimmering emerald water. With over 24 miles of beaches to discover, you’re sure to find a favorite. Wade out into the waist-deep water at Crab Island, parasail high above the ocean or rip through the tide on a Jetski. Don’t miss the chance to book a dolphin watching trek at Destin Harbor or charter a deep sea fishing boat for your chance to snag a marlin, sailfish, mackerel and more.
