Columbus is a city rich with history and attraction, with plenty to keep you busy. With a bustling downtown, diverse districts and an array of luscious parks, this capital city is just as pet friendly as it is people friendly.
Start your morning at the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. Located between downtown Columbus and Bexley, this agricultural display is where visitors can tour one world habitat after another. Vegetation includes Mongolia, Northern Europe, Indonesia and Brazil. Afterwards head north of downtown to the Short North Arts District. Here you can grab a bite to eat, view an eclectic blend of galleries and shop. If you find yourself in the area on the first Saturday of the month, be sure to check out the ‘gallery hop’ where sidewalks are lined with merchants, street performers and food.
Don’t forget to visit the quaint and charming German Village just on the other side of Interstate 70 from downtown Columbus. Walk about with your leash in hand and admire this well-preserved historical district, where no structure is higher than 3 stories. The neighborhood’s architecture dates back to the mid 19th century when German immigrants settled here, making it a picturesque backdrop to any family photo.
Over at Blenden Wood Metro Park, take your canine on the Goldenrod Trail. Here is a designated 1.2-mile hike meant for pets. Be sure to stay awhile and catch the sunset. If your furry friend is in need of some time off his leash head over to Big Walnut Dog Park on Livingstone Avenue. This park has three fenced-in acres with two double-gated entrance and a pond with a designated swimming area.
