I have visited Shanghai several times during the past few years, and always seem to return to Holiday Inn Express Shanghai Zhabei. The rooms are well equipped and spacious. The beds are really good. Free internet in all rooms, breakfast always included in price, laundry service and DIY laundry room (buy a token for this from the vending machine in the lobby) available. Cleaning staff do their work splendidly. Really cheap compared to other hotels in Shanghai. There is a lot to like about this hotel!
The breakfast is not anything special. The Chinese food seems to be a bit better, but western food is mostly toast, cornflakes and coffee. The cornflakes were somehow spoiled during my last stay, so then it was only toast and coffee.
The location is good. It's quite close to the city center and just next to Shanghai Railway station. The subway lines 1,3 and 4 are close, but still a good 10-15 minutes walking distance from the hotel. Around the railway station the atmosphere is a little dodgy, but still it felt safe to walk there at all times of day. If you are looking for new eye glasses, the international Eye Glass City (dozens of eye glass shops) is located just 20 meters from the hotel. A small 24 h convenience store and some fast food restaurants are nearby in case you get hungry later in the evening.
It's easy to get a taxi in Shanghai. If you want to be sure to get a proper taxi, ask the hotel to ring one to pick you up. The hotel staff are really very helpful in all situations, and I recommend asking them for advice. Always be sure to have the hotels name written in Chinese and the phone number of the front desk with you. You will need these so that taxi drivers can take you to the hotel.
If you are a light sleeper, it will be a good idea to ask for a room not facing the railways.

The hotel is situated near the train station, may be a little bit noisy if you keep the windows open, and the environment surrounding the hotel isn't that good either. It's a long walk to the subway station if you don't have a car.

Overall comfort (bed and bathroom) is within the expectation of the Holiday Inn Express brand. Recognition was not given to Platinum Ambassador and the upgrade was only offerred when I asked for it by saying I am a platinum ambassador. Check in staff was a female and she really needs more training on what good customer service means. Moreover, a smile could do wonders. Check out staff was a male and he was fairly helpful and thanked me for staying there.

酒店地理位置还可以，电梯速度挺快，很满意。
还有洗衣间，可以缓解出差没地方洗衣店问题，可是洗衣币还是有点贵。
虽然有早餐，但少了外国人的早餐及样式不多。
少来国外的早餐，就有点可惜。

What else could I ask for at this price, room nice and clean, staff are very friendly and quite helpful. It would be perfect if they could have easier access to taxi, not only in the morning but also during the afternoon. There could also be slight improvement on the quality of the breakfast.

Location is perfect, it's close to the Shanghai Long-Distance Bus Station, Shanghai Train Station & metro line.
Reception Desk Zoe & Kevin were very helpful & courteous.
Stayed in a non-smoking room, spacious, cleaned daily, nice shower and the air-conditioning was good. Bed was very comfy with 2 firm & 2 soft pillows, all the usual hotel amenities like kettle, safe deposit box and etc were present.
Complimentary internet access, wifi & in-room lan cable had good signal throughout the hotel.
Complimentary buffet breakfast was acceptable. The restaurant environment was nice and cozy, and staff were all helpful and attentive.
Its definately good value for the money you pay.
