Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A grand and elegant hotel where excellent service and comfort is second to We stayed at the Amstel over a long weekend and were so very impressed with the hotel, its amenities, ambience and services. All the staff were efficient, welcoming, friendly and very helpful. Our suite was lovely with great views over the river Amstel and the bed was extremely comfortable. Aad, the head concierge and members of his team, Peter and Duncan were kind and generous from our original booking and throughout our stay. All staff were very attentive and helpful, especially Albert in the bar and Andrew in the brasserie. It had a very calm and relaxing atmosphere making it one of the best hotels we have stayed in. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Hotel needs urgent restoration One night stop, first visit to this hotel. From the outside, you can sense the hotel needs attention and seems without management and attention to detail. Dirty rugs, dirty doors, run down furniture everywhere. Its a small hotel yes, 79 rooms, but it feels understaff everywhere also. In the lobby, bar or restaurants, you have to wait, wait and wait for service. Once you get it, they are attentive and take care of you, but its like fishing for this service. You don't know when you will get it. Its very expensive for what you get, again, the entire facility needs an upgrade and needs a proper management. Im most surprise at the bad condition of this intercontinental. April 28, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by wonderful hotel, charm and comfort together I loved my ten days at this hotel. It was beautiful, perfectly located on a canal, and full of charm. The facilities were of exceptional standard, including the pool and gym. I loved sitting out on the veranda balcony watching Amsterdam's canal life drift past, while drinking cocktails as the sun set. The room was very quiet and comfortable, especially the bed! Sleeping was very luxurious. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I was able to rent a bicycle from the hotel for a reasonable fee. It would have been good if this hire was free, but that is a small quibble. I would definitely recommend this beautiful hotel to anyone wanting to feel pampered and spoilt when next in Amsterdam. I dealt with several staff on the concierge desk and all offered a very high level of service. The breakfast service was well above average. April 17, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Outstanding Stay Quick stay in Amsterdam but from the very beginning the staff treated us as valued guests. The concierge team, and especially the lead, did a great job of making us feel welcome and always remembered us by name. Pretty easy to access attractions in the city via public transportation and easy walk (across the street really) to cafe/bar. Would stay again without hesitation. April 14, 2015
