Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A Wonderful Hotel We recently stayed in Amstel Hotel for a 3 day break, the hotel made our holiday, we could not have asked for more, we have stayed in many hotels over the years, but this was the best, it was the high standards and the attention to detail that made all the difference. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Seamless service, excellent location. A truly memorable stay. Being a frequent traveller it is not always easy to get the "wow" factor out of a hotel stay. The InterContinental Amstel Amsterdam definitely lived up to our expectations. We enjoyed a rare combination of excellent service, superb food (do not miss the delicious breakfast!), stunning décor & architecture, amazing spa facilities and a fantastic terrace where to enjoy the sun and relax whilst watching canal boats go by. The nice weather only added to a truly memorable stay. Next time we need to try Michelin starred restaurant , La Rive Strongly recommended if you are looking for a special, memorable stay. 23 July 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Poor staffing We have stayed many times in the Amstel. Great rooms, great location and views and wonderful decoration. But we were struck this time about the poor service and the apparent lack of personnel. Front desk could not get us simple questions about a potential extension of our stay (which we did not do, after three days). The concierge, who was knowledgeable and remembered our name 9the only one!!) was alone on sunday morning with huge line waiting for him!!! Breakfast service chaotic and long waits for the coffee. Late tea service was elaborate... The new bar is nothing to write home about, but the terraces and the breakfast room on the Amstel are still great. Car parking is too expensive. So the overall impression is that we overpaid for what we got. Compare that to Asian hospitality where they know your name after one day!! Much to be improved!! 13 May 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Truly remarkable stay As a frequent guest to IC hotels and royal ambassador I have become a critical guest. However, you can't fault this hotel. Cornersuite and atmosphere were excellent, Michelin star restaurant was superb and staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Concierge could manage every request, simply an outstanding experience. The only downside is that the hotel has no club lounge (and therefore limited benefits for RAs). Will return soon. 11 May 2013

I would highly recommend the hotel to anyone that is looking for "old world elegance and charm" My only disappointment surrounds my check-in experience. Although I am a Royal Ambassador I had to ask for an upgrade. This was very unusual for an IC property. 22 April 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Weekend break One of the best hotels I have stayed in. Compares favourably with other world class hotels. Good old fashioned service and comfort. The restaurant "La Rive" more than lives up to it's Michellin star. The tasting menu was excellent, complemented by the accompanying wines chosen by the knowledgeable Sommelier. The restaurant itself is very comfortable with romantic views over the river Amstel. There is also an inviting brasseire and bar. Certainly worth the 600 mile round trip. I would defiantly stay here again. 16 April 2013

However, staff in the restaurant have some possible improvements when dealing with families with children. It was not easy in the morning, but also the eveneing experience was not the best. 01 April 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 'old style' luxury with a modern sophistication I normally hit the Amstel once a year and this years first visit did not disappoint. Everything from the impressive lobby entrance with warm welcome through to the elegantly appointed executive suite. I was here with six friends and all reported happy times in their comfortable rooms. We made use of a few hours in the SPA and swimming pool complex, it was rather cold outside and the new features of the shower spa were most welcome. As a Royal Ambassador I also received fruit and water on arrival however it was the first time that I didn't receive a welcome cocktail or drink brought to the room after check-in. Minor but if you're used to something you notice when it doesn't appear. I recommend the excellent "Pain Surprise" from the menu and long with the winning tip of using the metro from the central station to get here. lovely place, i'll be back. 04 March 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Hotel with Superb Customer Care I would highly recommend a stay at this hotel. The staff and customer care is excellent. Rooms are well furnished and we stayed in a suite overlooking the canals. The bed ad pillows are so comfortable. Breakfast is pricey but you can select from a la carte. The Room Service is very good. The Gym and liesure facilities are very good.The knowledge of the concierges is superb and they cannot do enough to help you. Overall as an Ambassador Member of Priority Club I am generally well looked after by ICH, however on this occasion they rolled out the red carpet. Keep up the good work. 02 March 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable and luxurious with an Old World charm The Amstel is a true luxury hotel, one of only a handful in Amsterdam. When you walk in to the lobby you get a feeling of being in a museum. The original MC Escher lithographs on display, among other items, adds to the effect. The rooms are very spacious, bigger than other hotels. They have high ceilings and large windows (which open, of course), and are bright and pleasant places to relax or work. I've stayed in an Executive Suite and Junior Suite here, and they were each extremely comfortable. In fact I've never been more comfortable or slept better than at the Amstel. The staff is superb,, again a class above the typical five star hotel. The hotel's facilities cover the whole range of wants and needs. When I want to be really pampered in Amsterdam, this is where I stay. The price is high, but you do get something over and above other hotels. The Amstel offers a level of service, comfort and facilities that put it in a very select class of hotel. Highly recommended. 26 February 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Penthouse Suite + dinner @ La Rive We stayed for one night in the Penthouse Suit with river view at the Amstel to celebrate our five year anniversary. The overall experience was great. Staff like you would expect in a five start hotel of this class (but unfortunate this is not always the fact) really polite, helpful and knowledgeable. The penthouse suite was to our taste the most romantic and beautiful room we could have had. The concierge showed us an executive suit but we definitely preferred this one because of the cozy atmosphere. The dinner at la Rive was also outstanding and the swimming pool and sauna service were a nice extra. We would definitely advice anybody the Amtel hotel for a memorable experience. 22 February 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Welcoming and relaxing hotel. We recently spent a very enjoyable weekend at The Amstel Hotel, with a lovely room overlooking the Amstel River. Tea and coffee is now available in guest rooms, which is much appreciated.The leisure facilities had been renovated since our last visit and it is a great improvement. The staff were friendly and approachable as always, making us both feel very welcome. Afternoon tea was enjoyable, but would have been better with traditional loose tea, as used to be served. The nearby Hermitage Museum currently houses some of the Van Gogh collection and is only five minutes away. A short walk to Utrechtsestraat is worthwhile as it has independent shops and traditional bars. 10 February 2013
