LOCAL CULTURE

BICYCLES

Bicycles are the fastest and most efficient way of exploring the city, however they can also be a bit of a nuisance when walking around the city. Before crossing the road, make always sure you look in all directions as you cannot normally hear their approach.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A memorable experience Staying in hotels over 180 nights a year, this has definitely been one of the highlights. Friendly and experienced staff, lovely spacious rooms and a beautiful statuesque building, right in the center of town. I would definitely come back to Amsterdam to enjoy the Intercontinental Amstel Hotel. 19 November 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing Amazing hotel, wonderful room, the only thing missing was a view of the river. We were facing the city, which was still quite lovely. They gave us a complimentary bottle of champagne for our honeymoon, which was wonderful and much appreciated. The room was beautiful, the bed was comfy, and the bathroom was exquisite. Thank you :) There are certainly more 'centrally located' hotels in Amsterdam, so if you want to step out the door and be in the action, this isn't it. However, the #10 tram is just a half block away and runs very frequently. We were able to get everywhere we wanted to go within a few minutes on the tram. 13 November 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A lovely Hotel with very good Staff. This is without doubt one of the finest Hotels in Amsterdam. This is a Grand Hotel with a long tradition and international reputation amongst foreign dignatries, Heads of state, and Royals, Kings and Queens, have celebrated their birthdays and other occasions at this lovely hotel on the Amstel river, it's because of its reputation to rise up and do the very best that they choose this Hotel. Whilst not a central location, it's within minutes of some of the most exciting parts of the city of Amsterdam. This beautiful building has been redesigned to just 79 Suites many with lovely views of the Amstel River which at night is even more spectacular. The rooms are grand, the beds are like sleeping on a Plush cloud, the amenities amongst the best in the world. The room service devine, well delivered and layed out, Hot and scruptious. In the evenings we had dinner down in the restaurant which has a Michelin Star another evening we ate in the Brasserie, and we had a function for friends in the upstairs lounge with stunning views and drinks in the bar were relaxing. A very good health club with a heated indoor pool. I wont normally go into pools but this one was so lovely, warm and stylish, a big pool so I didnt feel like I was in anyone elses space. A must do, if your lucky enough to be staying and not the type that whines about cost, if you are smart enough to know that you really do get what you pay for, then this is the Hotel for you. And the Must do? well the High tea. It is grand, served in style and flair. With some of the best names in teas, chocolates and champagnes all provide the perfect High tea, along with decadent and enticing treats. Sweet and savoury fare, abound, I loved this High tea and it rates up there with my High tea at the Plaza Hotel in New York, and Grosvenor House in London. This is spledour at its best and just how I love to spend a holiday. I cant speak highly enough about this treat of a Hotel. 08 November 2014
