I have a great time during my visit to Austin and my experience at the Intercontinental Hotel was terrific. The staff was consistently gracious and helpful. I left my laptop power cord at home and within minutes a loaner was delivered to my room. When I'm next in town, I'll definitely stay there again.

Very comfortable room with Ambassador welcome amenities in room. Bed comfortable and bath products excellent. Only down side - Room AC never cooled enough for us at night. Too warm for sleeping. We like 68* and room always felt 74-75* even with drapes closed. This is mostly an issue with us no matter where we go, so just not SFA Intercontinental Hotel in Austin.

I thought the staff at Check in was extremely helpful, professional and went beyond the call of duty. Our rooms were not as exact as we had booked but they did everything in their power to make the stay nice for us. Our rooms were a little small but they were very nice. I also thought they were very helpful and quick during the check out procedure. They seem to realize that customer service and satisfaction are very important to return customers and their reputation. I don't think their food quite measured up to the Driskill Hotel across the street but for the price it was still okay. The breakfast buffet was cold and was not replenished quickly enough for the price that was charged. The items you could order on the menu were good. I also loved the balcony area of the hotel. I also wish there had been a gift shop in the hotel because the kids wanted a souvenir and our time was limited for shopping. I also wish they had coffee somewhere in the lobby for in the morning. They did offer lemon water for the day which was nice.

This is my second visit to this property. Both were disappointing in terms of service. The first time, after it took over 45 minutes to get my breakfast delivered (only coffee, cream and sugar!) I was told that they were behind because there was only one person delivering room service. I had to leave for my appointment so I cancelled my order. When I arrived in the lobby the coffee there was empty and it was not filled before I had to leaveI. Additionally, it took 30 minutes to get my car from the valet. I called 15 minutes in advance, as required, but when I arrived in the lobby they had not retrieved my car so I had to wait another 15 minutes. Between waiting for the room service and the valet I barely made it to my appointment in time.
This last time, I also had to wait 30 minutes to get my car from the valet. In addition, I asked for a massage appointment. The person at the desk raved about the great masseuse that you have and then never called me back for my appointment.
I often stay in Intercontinentials but, based on my experience, this one does not have the same service level as the norm.

We booked a mid level suite and were upgraded at check-in to the Governor's Suite on the 16th floor! We were in town celebrating our wedding anniversary and the hotel was fabulous! The comfort and attentive staff made the stay worth the trip, and we will definitely stay with them when we return for other events.

Really, can't beat this hotel. Expensive but if you don't mind splurging, best spot in Austin. At parity with Omni Downtown when you factor in loyalty program. Both are very comfortable and have great people working.

We went there for our wedding anniversary and told them that when booking the room but when we got there they had put us in a room next the alley where our view was the roof of the restaurant, (DIRTY) and out the other window was the alley and a parking garage. I expected more for the kind of money we paid and just more in general from such an up scale hotel. I am sure our experience would have been better had we been put in a better room.

The hotel and stall is great and worth the money if you want to stay up till 2 am and party. We were on the 3rd floor corner room and the music boom, boom, boom was loud till 2 or so. The hotel being downtown in the entertainment district attracted partiers down below and in cars with boom boxes and motorcycles revving that it was impossible to sleep until it all died down.
My husband said, It was the most expensive, worse nights sleep he had ever had and I agreed.

The stay was good overall. Unfortunately, the people in the room next to mine began screaming at 2:45am. I called the front desk, but I believe they quieted down before someone would have arrived. That being said, the staff were wonderful as always and are always the draw for our visiting the hotel. I forgot my contact case and when I asked the front desk if they knew where I could purchase one, they pulled one out from a box below the desk. That was a wonderful surprise! All the staff was helpful, but Vivanne at the front desk was particularly helpful and friendly.

The beds were very comfortable and the shower pressure was great, two important things for me in reviewing. The one big negative is that there is a lack of landing space in the bathroom. We needed more room to lay out our toiletries.

The hotel has done a great job on its remodeling and the rooms look fantastic. They are comfortable and beautiful. I love that they kept a great deal of the original detail like the Texas Star on the beds.
The hotel has a great restaurant inside that I always enjoy.
Staff is excellent and helpful. Club Lounge is great for breakfast. Location of the hotel is very convenient to all in Austin.

When I stay at Intercontinental, I expect a higher level of service. I arrived very late (almost midnight) and would be leaving around 7am the next morning. Therefore, I did not want to pay $30 for valet parking. I asked the staff member who greeted me where I could park around the hotel and what rates could I expect. The guy told me "I don't know." I don't know? Really? Any other reputable hotel would have told me my options around the hotel as well as rates. Just because I'm not parking with the hotel valet doesn't mean its ok to have your guest drive around in a foreign city trying to figure out where to go. I drove around for 20 mins until I found a place to park right around the corner. If the guy would have just pointed me to the parking garage, it would have been simple.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by PlatinumG Beautifully Renovated, Couple of Service Glitches
My overall review is very positive...beautifully renovated rooms, pleasant staff at front desk/lobby, great location. Concierge was also very friendly and helpful.
I only have two complaints worth mentioning:
(1) I stayed an entire week, and on more than one night, I called the front desk to schedule a wakeup call and let the phone ring and ring and ring....no answer. I knew they were there and not busy, because I had returned to the hotel shortly prior. Needless to say, I had to rely on my mobile phone for the wakeup calls...without this, I would have been late to my morning meetings. As a platinum member with expectation for consitent, reliable service, I would point out that this is a glitch that needs to be fixed.
(2) On my last day, the maid came knocking at my door at 8:45am to ask me when I would be leaving/checking out. This was really off-putting.....kind of "here's your hat, what's your hurry?" You would never do that to a house guest, and it just felt rude to me. There's a check out time and we all know that. After staying and paying premium pricing for an entire week during SXSW, this transactional coldness left a bad impression, contradicting hospitality.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Mevan Great location, love the restaurant
I ran the Austin Marathon and decided to stay in this hotel as it was right at the finish line and a great location in downtown Austin. It's one of my favorite hotels and I was really looking forward to relaxing in the room for a bit after the race. When we got to the room the door was so hard to open we had to have one of the maids in hall show us what to do (apparently jiggling it and slamming works). When we got into the room it was nice overall, and we had a great view of Congress Ave. I just wanted to relax a bit, but the television wasn't working. Pretty boring to sit in a hotel room while recovering from a marathon run. I called the front desk to ask what time happy hour started in the bar and they actually couldn't tell me (??) So we waited and when my legs came back to life we ventured down to the Roaring Fork, the restaurant inside the hotel and that's never a disappointment. All in all I'm glad we stayed, but it wasn't as great as I remembered or expected.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by knewc05 Not What I Was Expecting
Before I arrived, I realized that the hotel had booked me for the wrong weekend even though I was with a group (somehow they booked me with a random group). Fortunately, I was able to cancel and refund the no show charge (after a few phone calls). I was then placed in a room where they were pulling up the floor and using a jack hammer to do so. I tried to wait it out but it never stopped and the walls were shaking! I called down and they told me they would stop for the day in 4 hours!! Why would they have given me this room? So, I requested a change and packed up all of my bags. They sent a key to another room and no one to help me move all of my stuff. Frustrated, I dragged my stuff to the next room only to find that they had put me in a smaller room that overlooked dumpsters. I was too tired to complain so this is what we were left with for our big weekend away. I would not recommend this hotel to someone who is spending a lot of money to stay in downtown Austin. Very disappointed.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ricker81 Not bad, but not impressed either
Arriving at the hotel, I was very excited about the overall appearance, cleanliness and the overall professionalism of the staff. It really had the feel of a 5 star hotel experience. However, once getting the room, I was definitely disappointed. The heater to the room was not working and there was little to no hot water. I compliment the staff for quickly working to get this resolved. The television in the room was dated and could not be viewed from bed. Would I stay there again? Yes, but more for the location and proximity to areas where I need to be.
