Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by First Visitor The first visitor offer is perfect for a short trip to Berchtesgaden Alps. Outdoor activities are great and close to the hotel. The Executive Rooms are large and well-equipped. The wellness area is large, but I have expected more variety in the sauna area: e.g. honey treatment in the steam bath. The highlight was definitely the dinner: food was fresh, creative, and really tasty. All in all, absolutely recommendable! 16 October 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Spectacular view I stayed there for one night and enjoyed the royal ambassador room update to Berchtesgaden suite. The panorama view is so great and admiring. The hotel is also adjacent to the king's lake and town. The eagle's night is just besides the property. A Michelin star restaurant is also located. 09 October 2014

I strongly recommend this place for relaxation with amazing pool facility. Thank you to the hotel staff for making this stay memorable. 08 October 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful Mountain Resort The hotel was gorgeous! The common areas, rooms, restaurants and spa were all beautiful. The Spa was especially nice after a long day of driving. My wife and I were only able to stay one night while passing through but wished we could have stayed longer. We are hoping to return at Christmas time next year. The hotel staff was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The food quality was excellent. The bed in the room was very comfortable. The views from the room, restaurants and pool are wonderful. Also, if you are a Whiskey/Scotch drinker as I am, the hotel bar has a wonderful and huge selection of Whiskey. We will definitely return again soon. 07 October 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not as expected from an Intercontinental – Unwelcoming experience Berchtesgaden is the only Intercontinental where as a loyal guest I have not been made to feel welcome, or made to feel appreciated or special. If you are a Platinum IHG club member or an Intercontinental Ambassador do not expect the treatment you have become used to – this hotel has the Intercontinental name above its door, but that’s where the similarity stops. We arrived at around 8pm for a 7-day stay, we had driven from Italy, a journey time of around 11 hours, we were very tired, there was no doorman, no around one to greet us, no offer of assistance with luggage. This is unusual for an Intercontinental; in fact the entire hotel seems understaffed. Entering the hotel dragging our own luggage, a woman shouted across the floor from a chair behind a desk "can I help you?". I did not realise that this desk was actually the reception; at no time did she get out of her chair to greet an arriving guest and offer any assistance. I was told snootily that I was using points and thus would only be assigned a standard room, the implication that I was cheap and not worthy of staying in the hotel. I have stayed with and without points at Intercontinental hotels across the world and have never been told this or treated in this way and as an Intercontinental Ambassador I have become used to being upgraded on every stay and expected no different. I was told that there would be a charge to upgrade at which point the concierge was called into the “argument” who told me that Berchtesgaden is not a city centre hotel with limitless rooms, completely pointless since they did have an upgraded room available as long as I paid for it!!!! This treatment is not correct for a loyal IHG guest who is a Platinum Ambassador and who has spent 245,000 points for the stay (at time of booking equivalent of 123 stays at an Intercontinental). It costs nothing to make an effort and make loyal guests feel special and welcome, when a guest feels special, they will spend money. (For those of who do not know, the Ambassador program is not free, there is a dollar cost and members receive amongst other perks a “Guaranteed upgrade with every stay”, “Fresh fruit and bottled water on arrival” etc etc. By the time check in was completed, we were really tired and I just wanted a shower and some fruit – but there was no fruit in the room, another Ambassador benefit missing, I just could not be bothered dealing with the hotel again, but I rang “Instant Service”, it rang maybe 20-30 times. No one answered. No fruit arrived. The final straw was on check out, unlike other hotels there is no special Ambassador or Platinum checkout area, no instant checkout (usually available to Ambassadors), both check out positions were occupied with guests, one of whom was arguing with staff about an upgrade !!!! I returned 30 minutes later and both positions were still occupied and the same guest was now arguing with THREE members of staff about an upgrade. I just left my room keys on the desk and left as I could not wait to leave. I did have a call from the hotel manager after I left, I can now understand why all his staff are so unpleasant, all he wanted to do was argue, just like his staff. He told me that there are too many Intercontinental Ambassadors, all wanting upgrades…..well if you can’t live up to the brand above the front door, then don’t be a part of it!!! It is such a shame, Berchtesgaden is a beautiful area and if it were not for the very unwelcoming arrival, this review would have been 5 stars not 1 star. 19 September 2014
