This is the best resort I have ever stayed. Nice staff, wonderful facilities, beautiful views. It is pity that this resort will be transferred to another hotel group in next April. I may visit their again before the transfer. The only one thing is maybe it is better to provide English newspaper and magazine for non-Dutch customers.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 An excellent hotel and highly enjoyable visit
From the moment I arrived until my departure the hotel's staff were courteous and attentive. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. These remarks apply to all the staff with whom I came into contact, from the Manager to the newest recruit. The hotel breakfast is a true highlight, and the very best start to the day. All the food I had was well prepared and delicious.
The hotel's attention to detail makes this location a very special experience.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by FMC99 Bad Experience - Excellent GM
I was really looking forward to staying at this resort, however the stingy room allocation, outrageous in-room phone tariff (when compared to other Intercontinental hotels) and very poor service at the bar has really put me off.
The best thing about this property, other than it's stunning location, was the exceptional General Manager, whose professionalism and gracious attitude went a long way to making up for what had been a poor experience in the evening before.
I stayed in 4 different Intercontinental Hotels in Central Europe (Geneva, Davos, Dusseldorf and this one) this week and I'm afraid that Berchtesgaden was inferior to all of the others in terms of their hospitality towards me. I know that this property will not be an IHG one next year, and noted a real sense of faded enthusiasm amongst the staff (with the notable exception of the new Interim GM). Unlike most Intercontinental Hotels, I am told that this property attracts an 80% German domestic cliental, which meant that I as a solo travelling non-German speaker did not feel welcome here.
Unlike the other properties in which I stayed, there was a very limited introduction to my room, which in itself was not up to the standards of the other hotels. On the positive side, it was clean, the bed was comfortable and it was peaceful being off-season - but this is feint praise when you are spending this much for a night.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Geniales Frühstück

We recently visited Berchtesgaden to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. The property looked great when I checked it out online. But it was better in person. The design style of the hotel is different and and aesthetically pleasing. It felt like a Frank Lloyd Wright inspired design. I have read comments by people who thought there was a design issue with the lobby....but clearly its intentional and part of an overall impressive style. We rented a suite, and it was amazing. The amenities, space, furniture, gas fireplace, large windows looking out on mountains, large well deigned bathrooms, patio outside our door etc. was excellent! We ate at the Le Ciel restaurant (Michelin starred). The dining experience was excellent. The service was a bit slow (over 3 hours with long waits between courses) but the quality of food was perfect. Staff throughout the hotel were very accommodating and friendly. Very cool bar with amazing selection of whiskies. The area around the hotel was even more interesting than we realized before going. The nature trekking trails are wonderful. But there is also a lot of WWII history around and even below the hotel. Hitler's Eagle's Nest is in view on a mountain peak above the hotel, and the bus service to the top is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. We got very lucky with the weather, which made this Autumn visit all the better. We highly recommend this hotel.

Excellent place to stay, was beautiful but not close to town.
If you are staying with Holiday Inn Club points, confirm that before you check in. We booked with our rewards points and the staff welcomed us as preferred members of the club, but had to pay cash for the room when we left. Our confirmation did not show that it was reserved using points. That was an expense that we had not anticipated.
We had stayed at several other properties held by Holiday Inn Club during this same vacation using points, but were at a loss understanding why the points were not used for this also.
