LOCAL CULTURE

Eclectic Berlin

Some value it as fast-paced, colourful and full of surprises; others find it a little too hectic and a little gruff. Berlin is fascinating because it is multicultural and adaptable. Visit churches, synagogues, mosques and Buddhist temples. The biggest Jewish Synagogue offers guided tours.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent hotel, great location! We had booked a relaxing stay at the IC Berlin. The welcome we received at the front desk was EXCELLENT, and as IHG platinum members we were trested very nicely, and felt very welcome from the start at this hotel! the lobby was very clean and very quiet, a feature I very much apprecite! upon getting to the room we were pleased with the room decor and size, and by the little box (6 pieces) of chocolates and a welcome letter! a major down fall was the lack of ANY internet connection, I called the front desk who sent a young man to look at the situation. once he confirmed there was no signal he brought a godawfully ugly contraption with wires/cables going everywhich way and taking up most of the desk to get us the wifi signal! This is also one major downfall of the IC berlin, their complimentary internet for platinum members was an appalling 512kb speed, the slowest I have experienced ANYWHERE :( We later went to the spa, and tried to relax, but this was made near impossible as the hotel spa was invaded by very unruly kids, and parents who did a poor job of supervising them. I approached the staff as kids jumpig into the pool infront of other guests and into the jacuzzi was not in my eyes appropriate nor was boys ages 6-10 running around without swimsuits. the staff did approach the parents but even after 3 times the behaviour continued. I felt the staff should have asked the unruly kids and parents to leave after they failed to calm their kids down after three warnings but the staff did nothing more. just said to me well what do you expect me to do?? so we left. I did make a note to tell the duty manager, and he did promise to talk to the staff but later in the evening similar zoo was in place... the staff definately NEED to be empowered to remove unruly guests of any age, as to not deter from the vacation of others! I do not mind kids, I just do expect the behaviour to match the area they are in! On a possitive note the next day it was calmer when we visited at around noon. I would recommend this hotel without hesitation as I am sure the spa incident and the missinng newspaper (turns out no english newspapers are avaialable on sunday even though one wa promised but it was not a big problem) was a one off. Maybe next time I will try a different room type perhaps their club level. the staff were wonderful with the exception fo the guy who installed the wifi, but maybe he was just too busy? 18 July 2014
