Boston

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 406 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 Overpriced, undervalued The venue and room were excellent. We had requested an early check in because we were traveling from 3:00 AM and arriving in Boston at about 12 Noon for an affair that evening and wanted to relax and wash up. Although we asked for Early check--in prior to arrival day we were told that they couldn't "guarantee" it, and they didn't. We had to wait over an hour to get a room, any room. My other comment is that paying the luxury price of staying at the Intercontinental and then having to be charged for WiFi access in this day and age is adding insult to injury. Given the choice I will not return. 11 July 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great hotel - both in terms of location and comfort of stay I stayed for a couple nights and was pleasantly surprised by the level of service. There were a couple hiccups - when restaurant hostess did not want to honor my branch voucher that was given by front desk(I am platinum elite and received a couple upgrades) so she made me to wait while she was verifying the coupon with front desk. That was embarrassing. But I think this was exception. Anyways, overall I had pleasant experience and quick service upon my request. The food was excellent in the restaurant as well as room service. I would stay in this Intercontinental again. 09 July 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Luxurious This is a stylish hotel in a great location for exploring Boston. The staff and service are professional, efficient and pleasant. The restaurants offer a nice variety of food in a pleasant atmosphere. The one awkward amenity is the valet parking. The valet parks your car at city rates but upon departure you are required to descend to the garage, stand in line to pay and then wait for someone to retrieve the car. Often this is at a time when numerous people are checking out at the same time. Also, if you also need to retrieve additonal people and luggage there is not an easy way to accomplish that because of the design of the exit. One other note............. $12.95 a day to use internet is very bad form. I would have preferred to leave the hotel on a happier note since the stay was very pleasant. 08 July 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed. We booked our rooms months in advance and had both placed an online request to have the 4 rooms near each other and called to confirm that this was an option. We arrived for our weekend reunion and only two of the four rooms were next door to each other--the others were a significant distance apart. The front desk told us that it was too late to make any changes. We were extremely disappointed. Later in the day we took a boat ride (not arranged through the hotel), we had a lovely few hours on the water and when we came back into the hotel we were stopped and our small coolers were searched. We were told that we weren't allowed to bring alcohol into the hotel, and the hotel staff took our six beers. Being grown adults we explained they were merely left over from the boat ride, but they insisted on searching through our coolers in the middle of the lobby (very embarrassing) and taking six beers. The hotel had horrible cell phone reception. The rooms were nice enough, but there were only two full-sized towels in the bathroom. Overall we were happy with the hotel's location, but disappointed that our rooms were not placed near each other and that we're were treated poorly and embarrassed in the lobby by the staff. If we had to do it all over again we would book with a different hotel in the area. 07 July 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome This place is one of the very best in the Boston area. Thank you everyone for making our 15 anniversary the best. 07 July 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful view on the water side My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at the Boston Intercontinental. The hotel, restaurant, room, service, and staff were all first rate. My only reservations (hence the Good vice Excellent in a couple of categories) was the unfortunate false alarm evacuation at 12:30 in the morning. I appreciate the professionalism of the staff and the need to follow protocols for such incidents but it definitely was an unpleasant hour and unwelcome interruption to what was otherwise a beautiful visit to our favorite city. 05 July 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by wonderful customer service My stay surpassed my expectations as I expected a routine check-in, good service, clean excellent room, sufficient amenities and gorgeous surroundings. The desk clerk, Deborah, discovered it was my birthday and a scrumptious slice of choccolate cake and Figi water, and birthday card was awaiting me when I returned to m y room after my sight-seeing trek. I was overwhelmed by such an over the top gesture. This gesture shot my basic expectations out of the water and supplanted them into wonderland! 02 July 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fun night in the city We love this hotel. This was our second stay this year and hope to return soon. The rooms are very clean and tastefully decorated. Beds extremely comfortable. We enjoyed the music and sitting outside at the end of our evening. Check in was a bit confusing. I called ahead to request an adjacent room to my brother's room. The front desk person had difficulty with this when we arrived.. We had to wait for our room to be ready and I feel this could have been done prior to our arrival. Our reservation was for a premier room and we did not stay in what I consider a premier room. The view was of an asphalt rooftop. We had a nicer room during our last stay here,a beautiful view of the the city.My brother stayed in a suite that night and we all were in awe. The suite is extremely spacious. 30 June 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Downtown Experience The InterContinental is a terrific choice for those wanting to stay in the harbor area. My family had a great weekend walking around the area and enjoying the hotel facilities. The only hiccup was the double room would not accommodate a rollaway bed for fire code issues. If you have a family, and need a rollaway bed, double check that you have a room that allows it. 28 June 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Spectacular people and an amazing room My wife and I had two fantastic days at the hotel. Our upgrade to a suite thanks to my Ambassador status and the kindness of Evan provided us a luxury setting with a beautiful view All of the employees we interacted with were top notch, from the front desk to the Concierge who helped us select an exceptional restaurant Love the Hotel, Love the people 26 June 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent experience Our expectations were far exceeded. Room and hotel was as nice as the Boston Mandarin property. Would definitely stay there again. 22 June 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Uncomfortable bed and pillows The hotel was beautiful clean and accommodating. the bed and pillows were terrible, the pillows were so flat and flimsy and the bed was much to hard it was like sleeping on a floor with no pillows. I would have expected more comfortable sleeping situation from the intercontinental... Low end bed. Also if you happen to pull your car into the garage there was no bellhop to help with our bags. 22 June 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Hotel, Staff is avergae stuffy and quite snooty Outdoor bar, you supposedly can not make reservations but then outside groups were allowed to so we could not enjoy this. My son read abotu the "ice cream social" which he was excited for so we left the North End early to be told "they are running 20 minutes behind setting up" go back 20 minutes later and it literally was a woman at the counter took out a backpack cooler and he good get a fudgesicle or popsicle (one of those single serve, single stick type) I then glanced over and the staff was eating ice cream cones, but "those were no longer" available. Honestly I am most upset that we left the north end to waste our time at this false advertisement. Also I am a platinum member but there is no special line for priority club, just their paid "ambassador club" when I asked if there was an upgrade available the check in person just snickered and said no. 21 June 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Neutral about this property I travel a lot - I chose this hotel based on its proximity to the water. While the room and hotel were clean, I don't feel it was a great value by any means and would not stay again, at least at the rate during my stay as it was very pricey. I paid more to reserve the waterfront room, which translated to a very small, far inside corner where we could barely see a bridge, but could see into the rooms around us. The patio closes down very early so no late evening drinks outside. Bed comfort was average, room service food was average, and not all of the towels were 'clean.' I do like the small opening windows. And even though we were by the elevator the design is in a way that it didn't bother us at all. 20 June 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Great service Every one smiling and greeting while offering perfect service. Gym great Breakfast service exact acc to my requests. 18 June 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Overall Experience This was our first time in Boston and we were not sure what to expect or of the best location to stay for sightseeing. I was there for a conference all week and my wife joined me mid-week and we stayed the weekend for some R&R. This hotel was great in so many ways. Location was perfect for all types of food and entertainment, it was also very safe and my wife felt completely comfortable exploring on her own while I was at meetings. Rooms were spacious, well-appointed and comfortable. Hotel staff provided top service and information. The only slight knock on service, and it is a minor one, is that the complimentary toiletry items were not consistently replaced each day when the room was cleaned. One other piece of information is that you can get to and from this hotel and most places you will want to go for a $7 cab ride. Many points of interest are walkable and the subway is easily accessible to further distances. Overall this is a beautiful hotel, on the water that delivers a great experience all the way around. 15 June 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very friendly and helpful staffs When I checked (that was a rainy day) in at the hotel, the staff at the Ambassador check in counter was really helpful, helping me to get to my orientation in the city, searching the information I needed for my visit. And she was smiling all the time, giving me a very warm welcome on a rainy day. The gym room is nice, spacious with some very good facilities. 14 June 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful hotel in a great location Had a wonderful experience at this hotel. Spacious room with great amenities and waterfront view. We were only in Boston for 2 days and the concierge made sure we made the most of our short time. We had a slight problem with parts of our carpet being damp from being cleaned, but the manager helped remedy the issue. Would definitely stay again! 14 June 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Thank you ! As a returning guest, it is always nice to be recognized. The staff to a person were gratious and warm and accommodating. Accommodations both comfortable and clean. I would like to mention several associates as having been most accommodating ...D. and M. at the bar... M. in the 12 floor lounge...and specially Ms I at the Desk... Who's smile and charm was a true pleasure. As a former hotelier, this is what makes a stay memorable. One can build the most beautiful facility but without the staff to operate, it becomes just another hotel. Well Done to these associates they truly deserve recognition. 14 June 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Location, Great Comfort, Staff Excellent, Fire Alarm Negative Excellent location within walking distance of Quincy Market, Aquarium, and North End. Nice comfortable rooms. A little skimpy on the towels. Fire alarm after we had settled in on a Friday evening forcing us out into the rain (for some reason staff told us to exit side entrance into monsoon rain). Not a great start to our weekend and altered our plans to head to the Garden for the Bruins game. Hotel never acknowledged or apologized for incident or offered any token of compensation (e.g., dinner or drinks voucher, etc.). While would stay again and recommend because of fire alarm incident non-acknowledgement I would try other competing hotels on next visit. 14 June 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Terrific experience My wife and I greatly enjoyed our stay. The next time we go to Boston, we'll return to the Intercontinental. Your staff are excellent. Your food is good. We got a great room. See you in the future! 12 June 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by pay more get less We had an early flight, but since this is a high class establishment we were not permitted to use one of the carts without the doorman, who was busy delivering newspapers. So these high class guests had to carry a heavy box of files and luggage down to the garage. Appearances are evidently valued above substance. "Valet" parking is pick up only. Not the end of the world, and not the most expensive hotel in the world, but we are paying extra for more than a nice location, bed and tub. And $15.00 for wireless? Is that really necessary when hotels at a fraction of this rate have been giving that one away for years? Oh, and one more thing; .my daughter was on hold with the front desk for so long that she just went downstairs from 9 floors up. This is a simple repair; have staff and management show up in more than the physical sense. 09 June 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good comfortable hotel Good hotel, helpful staff. Very average club lounge. 08 June 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Nice property with zero service Our stay was like being at an overly pretty Holiday Inn. Showed up in a cab with 2 kids and lots of luggage. Not a single staff member to help at all. Hauled it all ourselves. Ordered room service 3 times, each time they forgot something. Had to call housekeeping to beg them to make up the room before 5 pm - I mean, come on! Went to the pool, lovely pool, but towels and old food from other guests had been left sitting out. The property itself is very pretty. But they probably have 1/2 the staff they need. You are basically on your own, and they will help you or do the basics only if you actually call them and ask. Not at all what I expected from an Intercontinental. 08 June 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exceptional Service, excellent property---loved the InterContinental Lounge on the 12th Floor! I am a Platinum Ambassador and this was my first time at the InterContinental Boston. We stayed two nights during the weekend for a college reunion in Cambridge. I particularly appreciated the personalized service (separate Ambassador check-in and check-out desk) of the staff who assisted us upon our arrival. We were upgraded to a two room suite with water views. The 12th floor InterContinental lounge is one of the best, well-stocked (hot breakfast! plenty of fruits and vegetables!) club lounges my partner and I have visited in a long time. Neither one of us was too familiar with the location as I guess it was formerly cut-off from most of the city before completion of the big dig. That being said, we each enjoyed a long run along the wharf areas and the proximity to downtown. We didn't take advantage of the subway nearly as often as we had planned, but it is very close to the hotel and would have been a fine alternative to going back and forth to Cambridge. 08 June 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Lovely hotel, fair location, tacky internet charge I liked the hotel -- it was tastefully designed, contemporary, very clean, courteous staff (especially the bell staff -- there was a very nice person, a Bosnia native, who was extremely helpful). But I thought the area was not the best. And I find it very tacky when upscale hotels charge for internet, and this one had a very high fee. 07 June 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice hotel room I hadn't stayed at an Intercontinental hotel before, but this one was great. Nice beds, lots of room, and everything was very clean. The shower had good water pressure, and the bathroom was well stocked with useful items. I would definitely recommend the Boston location, as it's only a short walk from the T South Station. 07 June 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Service but Uncomfortable Bed The hotel itself it very impressive - from the service, to the restaurant and bars, to the views from the rooms and it is located in a great location. However, we found the beds to be incredibly hard and uncomfortable. While I loved the hotel itself, I likely would not stay there again because I'd rather get a good night's sleep in a comfortable bed rather than tossing and turning on a very hard bed. 07 June 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Denial of Room Upgrade (Despite Adequate Availability and Platinum Membership) and Poor Service I'm a Priority Club Platinum Member and have been so for the past 2 years. On check-in I was denied a complimentary upgrade even though there were available rooms on the club level. I was told that "the hotel does not honour upgrades despite me being a Priority Club Platinum Member". The only complimentary service I received was a complimentary Wi-Fi voucher. I think that this room was extremely overpriced and not worth it. I wasn't greeted as a Priority Club Platinum member either. Did not receive any sleep amenity kit either. The attentiveness of the spa staff was minimal, I had to wait 30 mins before being able to sign in to use the facilities. The Spa staff were also unhelpful. 06 June 2013
