Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by First bad impression is the lasting impression. I booked at this hotel a prepaid non refundable rate,hotel was advised of my arrival time and airport pick up arranged. I would have expected from the room division manager,the front desk manager or his assistant or the duty manager to take care of my booking before my arrival so everything will be ready:propper upgrade,fruit&water,welcoming letter with benefits. But none was done and i was greeted with:As a valued Royal ambassador member your room have been upgraded from club city view to club nile view waoww quite generous. After a long night flight i wasnt in the mood to argue,i just needed a bed and a bit of peace,i made sure to tweet IHG care,needless to say i wasnt in the mood to deal with anyone from the hotel and declined their late upgrade offer,i am not in a camping to pack and unpack my luggage and my advise to the general manager,re-train your staff regarding ambassador program and benefits . Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Grand Hotel. Mixed experiences A large, well-located hotel with superb views. Good restaurants. The bars could be better. One so dark and unwelcoming that it is always empty. The other dated but very nice staff. Food quality was excellent. Some of the staff were superb (cleaners, room service, restaurants and bars). Others, somewhat indifferent (reception, club room reception, concierge). As an ambassador member, check in was unimpressive. Indeed, with one or two exceptions, the quality of service at reception was decidedly average. Ground floor café staff were very nice. May 11, 2015

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by A good hotel, but let down by all the smoking Overall the hotel is quite good. However there are some shortcomings, such as the cafe restaurant not always being open. The hotel is very smoky everywhere, including in the restaurants and especially in the lobby, which is extremely unpleasant when having to stand in lines at the reception desk behind active smokers. Although I expressed a preference for a room on a high floor, I was given a room in the lower mid-levels, and even this required a wait of an hour when I arrived at 1pm as the room was not yet ready. I was just told to sit and wait in the (very smoky) lobby. As an IHG Ambassador, my room was upgraded as promised, but the upgrade was useless as it was an upgrade to a suite that was essentially just an adjoining room - when I am travelling alone, I don't need a second bathroom, a second TV set etc. An upgrade to a Club room would have been much more appreciated.
