Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice hotel, but gym needs an upgrade & hot tub. Overall, our stay was very comfortable. The room was well-furnished and nice & large. Nothing too special or fancy, but nice and clean. The location is also very convenient. However, the gym could use some updating - the cardio equipment was old, which was disappointing since you have to pay to use the gym in the first place - I expect a nicer gym if the hotel is going to make you pay to use it. And the pool area (although very elegant & beautiful) did not have a hot tub - which seems very odd for such a high end hotel - even though here seems to be plenty of space to add one. The pool was a good temperature, but the water was very chlorine-y and it burns/stings your eyes - my eyes were quite red the rest of the day after swimming for only 30-45 min. 05 July 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Problems and quality at the Intercontinental Why the staff were nice and pleasant the room and housekeeping were not. First their were plastic cups in the bathroom wrapped in plastic, as if I were staying at a Day's Inn or Holiday Inn. They were not replenished by housekeeping every day, even when they were discarded by the room housekeeper. The in room coffee pot was not cleaned out each day. The room air conditioner blew a steady wind over the entire bed and sitting area. So the only way to avoid the breeze from the vent was to shut off the system. Needless to say the elevators were slow and often filled to capacity making it difficult during the day to move to various different floors for break out sessions. All of these issues were addressed upon check out with the staff and a follow-up call. They did over an upgrade the next time we stayed at the hotel. We probably will not stay at that hotel as we live in the suburbs and stayed at the hotel for the convenience of the conference I attended. 03 July 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great location, but that's it We stayed in the hotel for 3 days for the conference. The location is really good, within walking distance from almost everything. Room was relatively small and poorly designed. When one person sits at the desk, the other has to "squeeze in". The fixture in the bathroom did not work well, it required "extreme power" to turn on the shower. The phone line "call for immediate assistance" was always busy. All in all this hotel has significant room for the improvement for such a price. 30 June 2013

My room, located in the historic tower, was spacious, clean and very well equipped. I would not hesitate to recommend and would gladly stay here again. 29 June 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful Stay - June 21 - 23rd We had an extremely wonderful stay at the Intercontinental - the staff, room accomendations and ammenties were perfect. We very much enjoyed the self guided tour that you provide with the individual head sets. We did take the tour and enjoyed learning of the hotels' rich history. Should we find ourselves visiting Chicago again, we will certainly keep in mind the Intercontiennal hotel! Thank you The Gabrielles 28 June 2013

It is also walking distance to some great dining locations and shopping. For those who want a great place to stay and see parts of hostoric downtown Chicago you can't beat the hotels price and location. 25 June 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Will is GREAT! I stayed at the Intercontinental for a conference and was pleased with the hotel. The hotel itself is not extraordinary, but it is overall clean and has an excellent location right on the Magnificant Mile. What I was very impressed with was the staff and their customer service. Particulary, was I impressed with WILL, who was the DoorMan. He was SO nice and SO helpful from the time he greeted at my arrival to the time he assisted me with a cab for my return home. I was there for several days and each day that I saw him, he could not have been more helpful. Even gave me a tip of where to go buy something needed at a cheaper price. I work in HR and I know that employees like Will are hard to find and I hope you show him some appreciation for a job well done. 20 June 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Mediocre There is nothing that particularly stands out about this hotel. When I arrived in the mid evening, the only thing open was Michael Jordan's steakhouse, which apparently only serves bar food at that time of night. I placed a room service order the same night for breakfast the following morning. I would ordinarily put the order on the door hang menu, except there was none in the room. The breakfast delivery time came and went, and when I called to ask where the order was, they had no idea what I was talking about. I ended up eating breakfast at the second floor restaurant, in a rush. However, upon explaining why I was in a rush, they did comp the breakfast. Another disappointment was the fitness center. They charge guests to use it. Whenever hotels do this, I expect pretty much a full gym with weights, treadmills, bikes, elliptical, etc. and I also expect an attendant. An informational sheet in the room says I have to request fitness center access. So, I went to the front desk and they told me to just go to the fitness center. So I went to the fitness center and the lady manning the desk punched my room number into a computer and proclaimed that my rate plan doesn't give me access. I looked around and saw a couple treadmills, a couple bikes and that's it. I left. I'm also annoyed that I had to pay extra to be on a high floor. Most hotels note the request and try to accommodate. I feel like I'm being nickeled and dimed here. Oddly enough they give you a voucher for a free tall coffee at starbucks upon check-in.. They can keep the coffee and just give me the high floor instead. Everything else about the stay is what I would expect out of a note . However. the service quality doesn't justify the prices. Next week I'll try a new hotel. 16 June 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointment Our recent stay at the Chicago Intercontinental was overall a disappointment. We arrived there at approximately 1:30 PM knowing that it was earlier than check-in time. We were fine with the fact that we weren't able to get into our room. We were there for a wedding and there was a tour of the hotel arranged so we went and enjoyed the tour very much. We spent a little time in the hospitality suite that the bride's parents' had reserved. We checked a couple of times after 3:00 PM to see if our room was ready, which it was not. The lobby was very full of people checking in for the night and we watched them all disappear to their rooms. Finally at 4:30 we went to the check-in desk and got a little forceful and nastier this time. We needed to be at a rehearsal dinner and still didn't have a room to get ready. At that point the clerk said our room was ready and said that he took off the $9.00 per night for a higher floor level. None of the check-in personnel were very friendly or cordial to make you feel at ease about the situation. The room was very unaccommodating. Between the big TV and the computer there was no flat surface to place items. The bathroom needed a larger flat surface as well. The lighting in the small hall area near the closet was too dark to use the mirror hanging there. The coffee set was so hidden that we didn't even know it was there until the second day. At one point all I wanted was some tea. I bring my own tea and kettle everywhere I go. Stupidly, I grabbed the water off of the computerized snack bar and was charged ten dollars for it. Ridiculous! I know that all of the snacks and alcohols are not free, but even some of the less expensive hotels put bottled water in their rooms. Mistakes happen and our family has all worked in the hotel/restaurant business. We know it's rough. But, when a customer is disappointed you must take care of them in some way or they aren't going to recommend the establishment to others. 16 June 2013

I wish my trip had been longer though (1 night) so I could have enjoyed it more. There's always next time. 14 June 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Rude Rude employees and staff I chose this hotel based on the American Girl package that I was told was offered, but I did not receive it at all. They told me I would get popcorn, cupcakes, turn down service of both my daughter's bed and her American Girl doll, etc., well it was quite the contrary. We never once received turn down service during our stay from Thursday to Sunday. On Saturday night, we never received our cupcakes or popcorn and when we called down for it, they said they would send it right up, so we waited to go to the pool (which is filthy dirty), instead we waited an hour, then had to call again, still waited another 30 minutes, then finally I heard someone delivering something to a nearby room, opened our door and asked him if he knew when and how we could get our cupcakes and popcorn and he said he would check on it, about a half hour later, he brought up a small bowl of popcorn crumbs that obviously were old and just what was left at the bottom of the popcorn machine. What kind of hotel would give a 4 year guest, old crumb popcorn? Needless to say it was thrown out. Another issue was the room next to us on Friday night was loud all night long... all night and all morning on Saturday a.m. The parents were loud, making loud siren type noises and talking loud, they had a loud crying baby all night, loud toddlers that kept trying to open the door that was between us, which was really scaring me. I called down to the front desk many many times and called security, but all anyone would do was speak extremely rude to me and tell me they could move me. Why should my 4yr old daughter and I have to be inconvenienced further?! Move the guests that are loud, uncooperative, and disturbing the peace. The next morning I asked the head lady at the front counter if those guests next to us would be there another night and she said yes and that all she could do was move us. Again, that is a hassle and why should the one's who are cooperating and being the ideal guests have to be inconvenienced. That night I asked for the manager on staff to assist us with our move and when she checked, she said the people had checked out and she didn't know why the lady earlier had told us that they were staying Saturday night. So in all, I was stressed all day, going on an hour sleep, and it all could have been ok if only the main lady at the front desk would have done her job and told us the correct information that the loud guests had/were checking out and I would not have to move. There is actually more to this story about how rude and unprofessional the staff was, such as when I asked for a manager, they said there was no manager on duty, he had left and no one could help me, then they finally said he would call me, but again, we sat there and waited an hour and a half and he never called... in all, the hotel experience ruined my daughters 4th birthday vacation, caused her and I a lot of grief, she cried a lot because of all of that and all the time I spent on the phone trying to get resolution, she was witnessing herself the rude woman that was speaking to me mean at the front desk, and it hurt her feelings that someone would speak to her mommy that way! I would never recommend this hotel to anyone, nor would I stay there again! It looks like class when you walk in, but their employees lack it 100%! 09 June 2013

The way the bathroom was set up in the room you bumped against the door frame. Our room was not very clean and I did give feedback to the staff. Staff was friendly. Bed was comfortable. 04 June 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great location, breathtaking facilities We visited this location for a wedding over Memorial Day weekend. Our room was clean and spacious, with all the amenities we needed. The desk-top computer was helpful in finding information for free about attractions and restaurants. We used it to map out several of our walking excursions. Although we didn't have a chance to use it, the pool was beautiful. I loved the full-service Starbucks on location, and used it for breakfast each day. One thing that was unfortunate was the amount of space provided in the mini fridge for personal items. We were unable to preserve any of our delicious leftover Chicago-style pizza, and it had to be thrown away as a result. Also, I did not appreciate the enormous "incidentals" deposit/hold that stayed pending on my bank account for a week after our checkout, which created a whole wave of financial issues following our trip. Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much and would love to return. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great location and breathtaking facilities. 02 June 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by room wasn't ready at 4pm Room wasn't ready at 4pm and asked wait for room on 21st. floor came back 30 minutes later room was ready on the floor of 16th floor complained and got the 19th floor room there was a trainee at the reception desk she had no idea what to do the other CSR helped me and he was very good and knowledgeable included breakfast was excellent and I tipped cash but still get charged $7.xx from restaurant but I can let it go. two things that make it worth it was fresh food from restaurant and 2~5th floor decoration on historic tower. I would still recommend to my friend and family but needs some improvement thanks 31 May 2013

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Platinum vs Gold Ambassador Upon first arriving and NOT being greeted as a Platinum Ambassador member the stay became a comedy of errors. My wife and I laughed each time something else went wrong. We were NOT upgraded as promised, our room did not even have a single drawer for clothes. When we called to inquire we were told a chest of drawers would be brought to our room, it never came and we were told later they "were out of them". We made it through the first night and went to the gym to work out and were told it would cost $16 each for us to use the gym during our stay. A friend of mine was also staying at the hotel who was a Gold Ambassador member and he went on and on regarding his upgraded room, free Starbucks coupons, etc. Well, I suppose at the Intercontinental in Chicago Gold is higher than Platinum????? We will stay elsewhere in the future. 27 May 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Broken AC made for a hot evening... Overall a good value... However, the AC was not functioning well. It was reported on one night and (I assume) never fixed. At first it was running but just not cooling. Our last night it just didn't run at all. This caused for a very hot, sweaty uncomfortable night - and as a result we didn't get much sleep at all. There was a problem with the water temperature. The "cold" water came out "hot." Sometimes you would have to let the water run for 5 to 10 minutes before it finally got cold. This means you would have to brush your teeth with hot water, and the shower took 10 minutes of cooling before you get underneath without scalding yourself. One other comment - I fully support the green program... however, I feel that you should have to "opt in" to it, as opposed to "opting out." The default should be that they change the sheets and the towels daily - unless otherwise stated by the guest. Thanks! 27 May 2013

Needless to say I'm glad I chose to stay here. The experience was very enjoyable from the start. When I arrived I was met by Will and he made me feel right at home. Check in and check out was effortless. Michael Jordan's famous cheese burger was outstanding. This was an experience that I plan to have every time I have to do to Chicago. 26 May 2013
