Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quick Weekend Get-Away from a Business Trip It was my first time to stay at this property and I had to drive from Lake Forest, IL to spend my weekend in Downtown Chicago. I was welcomed by warm valet parking personnel. The IGH Platinum staff was very accomodating. Since it is my first time to stay at the property, I asked for a small request to put me into a nice room so I can enjoy my first stay at this hotel. Well, to my suprise, she had me at a suite which I was very thankful for. Overall, I cannot say anything not nice during this stay and has surely exceeded my expecations. Staff went an extra mile of making sure I enjoy my first stay. I will definitely go back to this property and hopefully, the staff will be very welcoming and warm. 09 July 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great location and attentive staff Our 3-night stay at the Intercontinental was fine. I have only a couple of minor criticisms: the sink in the bathroom took way too long to drain, and the wi-fi was sporadic to nonexistent. I would have been more upset had I had to pay for the wi-fi. The concierge staff (Kathy and Sylvia) were exceptional. Friendly and helpful, they impressed us with their thorough knowledge of bus lines, boat reservations, and directions. Please let them know that they are highly regarded. The reception desk personnel also were quite helpful, placing us in a room with a king bed when I had been told on the phone the night before that none was available. I would not bring any type of large group to this property as I don't believe the sales staff is accommodating for this type of business nor has the expertise to properly handle anything other than booking rooms. 07 July 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Cozy beds..but it all comes at a big price I stayed two nights and at first I was impressed but then I checked my bank statement and saw that the hotel took out $250 of my checking account. I later asked the front desk about it and they told me it was a hold for incidentals. I was never told this at the time of check in and was very upset about the whole thing. I understand keeping a credit card on file in case something happens after check out..but to charge that much right off the bat was wrong in my eyes. I won't ever be staying at this hotel ever again. 07 July 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Hotel This hotel has great staff and excellent amenities. I stayed here on an award stay for 3 nights in June. In recognition of my status, I was upgraded to a premier room in the historic tower, which is an old building with unique architectural features. Apparently there are many different room configurations, so you may not get a room that is described like the room description or fits the picture. The hotel was sold out the first night I stayed, and I was a little dissatisfied by the first room I was booked into (There was only one window which made the room dark, and the furniture was a little askew--the room didn't feel very comfortable because there seemed to be a lack of air flow#. However, the next morning I asked the excellent front staff worker Monica if there was a separate room available. The hotel had less guests that day so everything worked out. I opted for an accomodation upsell for a reasonable price and was put into an executive suite on a high floor. Again, I assume because there are many different room configurations a 'suite' might not be what you think a suite should be, but I was very satisfied with the room. The pool in the fitness center is absolutely amazing and one of the best parts of my trip was taking early morning laps. The staff in the fitness center goes above and beyond to accomodate you. As a platinum ambassador, I did not receive my welcome amenity #A bowl of fruit or points# on my reservation, which I noted to the front staff. They said they would correct the error but I still have not received the points. Also, I did not receive points for the accomodation upsell charges, but I'm unsure if this is a matter of policy or an error on the hotel's part. I really like intercontinental hotels and this was no exception. Definitely recommended 07 July 2014

The location on the "mag Mile" in Chicago is the best. You are centered between the theaters and the shopping and dining! It's perfect! 07 July 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great location, nice room and friendly staff After flying through the night and arriving at the hotel at around 10am we were delighted that when the receptionist asked about our reservation, I was expecting that we would not be able to check in yet, but to our surprise she handed us our room keys. This was brilliant that we were able to access our room early to get refreshed after our travels. The hotel was nice and clean and the room was a good size and clean and comfortable. The staff int the hotel were friendly and helpful and the hotel was in a great location as It was nice and close to the shops and main tourist attractions. 06 July 2014

The amenities were what we expected from an Intercontinental Hotel. What made our stay most memorable was the perfect, friendly service from every employee we encountered, starting with Aaron the doorman who greeted us in the taxi with a hand shake. 05 July 2014

It was our 37th year anniversary and we could have stayed anywhere with us living in Chicago, but the special promotions the hotel had , made it an easy decision. Will return. 05 July 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Not Up To Your Previous Standards The Intercontinental Chicago Magnificent Mile is perhaps my favorite hotel in Chicago and has been for many years. Unfortunately, ths stay was a a bit of a disappointment. Although checked in promptly upon arrival and presumably given an upgraded room, once in our room and unpacked, the service was definitely not up to what i have come to expect from the hotel. The most disappointing aspect was that on at least three separate occasions, in trying to call the one touch service niumber to request such routine things as asking Housekeeping to make up our room or request basic informmation, we were either placed on Hold, not to be answered for more that 15 minutes over multiple attempts at redialing, or the phone line rang and nobody picked up - ever! This is not up to the standard of a hotel that has been a valued place to stat for me for more years than i can count. Clearly the service has slipped since my previous stay. As i have many fond memories of this hotel, I implorr the hotel management to do better. 03 July 2014

The hotel is in walking distance of Millennium Park, Navy Pier, River Boat Tours, shopping and restaurants. Hotel staff very polite. When we encountered a minor issue in our room, Ms. D. Ortega from housekeeping handled our concern immediately and was helpful beyond our expectations. We look forward to staying again at Intercontinental Hotel & Resorts in Chicago. 03 July 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointing stay We stayed here for a getaway for a weekend night and were disappointed as we usually love Intercontinental hotels. They granted our request for a "large" room as we were traveling with our baby but it was still cramped! It was also very old style in bad need of updating and not worth the $200+ we paid, The TV was so small and in one side of the room - not facing the bed! We asked for something more modern but were told we would have to pay upgrade fee. The view was not too great. The air conditioning did not work well on a hot day even though we set it to 66 (at home we keep it at 75). It was noisy even though we were on a high floor - you can hear sirens all night. The staff was very nice though.. 02 July 2014

Dinner at Michael Jordan's was the best and I wish I knew how to make the garlic bread sauce they use. Beds are very comfortable and staff very accommodating. We will definitely go back. 01 July 2014

Your staff is the best. Your hotel is wonderful. And the view from the 38th floor is to die for. Oh, and did I mention the pool? An absolute classic. Don't change a thing. The parking attendant made it easy to valet my car on what is a very busy street - he was timely and there was an offer to assist with bags, but he was not pushy about it. More than one person at the front desk welcomed me back and even greeted me by name. I was asked if there was anything else I needed before I was given my key; while that is not unusual,the big smiles from the front desk made it memorable. The Supervisor also came around the desk and shook my hand. The room was fantastic - clean, bright, spacious, and the amenities were high quality (Kleenex, bottles of water, towels, etc.). Later when I passed through the lobby Malcolm saw me and greeted me by name. He didn't have to stop what he was doing, but he took the time to come greet me and confirmed I was enjoying my stay. I knew his offer to let him know if I needed anything was sincere. The property itself (room, Starbucks in lobby, outstanding gym/pool) all contributed to a great experience, but the top notch service is really what distinguished this experience from others. 28 June 2014

Locating the entrance to the Hotel was also a challenge- Check in was outstanding- noting our frustration the staff member offered us complimentary late check out and a complimentary room upgrade. Her empathy turned the mood dramatically- was a day saver- Rooms in the Historic tower are on the small side to be expected in a property of this vintage- Bed was very comfortable, room nicely finished and very clean- Overall the experience was quite positive- I suggest saving money - you can self park near the hotel for $42 for 24 hours compared to valet in/iout for $65 plus tax- 26 June 2014
