Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Wrong Room We reserved a room with a King bed and received a Full bed instead. We told the front desk twice about it and they assured us that we really did receive a King bed room. Only after contacting the maid staff did the front desk realize that their computer system incorrectly marked the room as King. The night staff gladly changed our room. But this hassle (and the annoyance of the day staff's incorrect assurance) was not what any guest would have expected from IHG staff. We would not recommend this particular hotel to other guests. 26 August 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good staff; average room; below average plumbing I stayed in 2 rooms in the same week - and in both rooms, the shower would not drain, despite me notifying the front desk about the first room (and I just gave up on the second). It's as most travelers have reviewed this hotel on other sites; great staff, but the facilities need an upgrade. Also, the entire 7th floor smelled like rubbing alcohol/dry erase markers for several hours during the week. Don't know why. 22 August 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Service could be a lot better All I can say about my stay is that when I arrived to the hotel I was impressed by the customer service provided by the girls in the front desk. They were very nice, and helpful. Since I arrived early in the morning. I was invited to wait for my room in the concierge lounge on the 15th floor. The lady in the front desk called, and told them that I was going to be waiting for my room over there, and to invite a drink while I wait. When I went up there, the gentleman in the room didn't even greet me even after I identified myself, and I was never offered anything to drink. A couple days later, I was having problems with one particular male waiter in the restaurant where you have breakfast, it seems that the waiter is racist, and a couple times I asked for something, and he brought it with a nasty face. Then my wife came to visit me at the hotel, and another day she requested something to the same waiter, and he sent another waiter to serve us. I complained about it, and nothing was done. Last but not least, when my wife arrived, I asked if I was going to get charge for double occupancy, and they said, no. But they told me that breakfast for my wife was not going to be included, and I told them that I would pay with another credit card. At the end, I was not only charge for breakfast, I was charge $15 dollars per day as en extra room charge, and I was charge more, because my wife left two days before I did, but they still charge me for that, and I was also charge for breakfast. And to end this nice stay, I was told that since I had a special rate that I wasn't going to get points for the two weeks I stayed in the hotel. 20 August 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Top Notch Staff The hotel itself is great, but the staff is what really made my stay. Everyone I encountered was warm and friendly, and always went out of their way. My room had a great view of the city and was surprisingly quite at night. I had a couple issues with the shower water pressure in the morning, but aside from that it was an excellent stay. This is my favorite hotel in Guatemala, and I would come back here again. 17 August 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Points and status My stay was great as always but I have a couple of items that can be improve. I stayed twice in the last 30 days but my points were not added and I'm a gold member in your database although I'm a platinum ambassador. Maybe is not the hotels fault but it should be an easier way to register any point earned by staying in the intercontinental chain. Otherwise as always the service and the overall hotel was good and pleasant. 11 August 2013

Cons: Noisy in Lobby Area, (maybe because of wedding receptions and loud live music @ bar). Room cleanliness can be improved. 09 August 2013

I decided to stay at Intercontinental for a weekend getaway and chose it for its renown sleep quality. unfortunately, the only thing i liked was the location and the sleep quality. For its value, i think the management should consider training the staffs (esp. the ones at the front desk)and improving the quality of the breakfast. 09 August 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Staff need training - noisy guests The Intercontinental Hotel in Guatemala city is in need of renovation. The décor is dated and the carpets in the rooms and hallways are worn - there is a dated appearance for the entire hotel. The staff is not knowledgeable and does not seem to be eager to help - I was in the business office to use the internet and the lady that was there was indifferent to my wanting to print my boarding passes (the printer required a password) - she was busy on the phone chatting with her friends. I had to complain to the duty manager who was quite apologetic and sorted things out. The next day I asked about any local city tour and was told to call a travel agency that operated in the hotel - the staff did not assist me in obtaining the tour and I was even charged for the call to the travel agency that was based in the hotel. When I asked for recommendations about local restaurants, I was directed to a chain restaurant across the hotel that was serving Mexican food!! The staff needs to be trained to be attentive to the needs of guests - on the weekend they had a lot of noisy guests for a party that was being hosted in the hotel - at quite an inconvenience to the guests that were staying at the hotel. 03 August 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointing experience I really had a disappointing experience during my last stay (Jul 17-19). As a Gold status member, I expected that my request for a king size bed (both on my profile and my request for this stay) would be acknowledged. I was placed in a tiny room (824) with a very small single bed. I requested front office to change me but the response was that there was no availability and to ask the next day to see if a another room was available then. Very dissapointing response. Also, the promise of the daily newspaper delivered to my room was not fulfilled. In summary, very disappointing experience. I expect that during my next stay these issues will be compensated. 24 July 2013

Courtesy transportation to the airport starts from 6am. I usually take 7 o'clock flight and I have to be at the airport at 5, I have to take a taxi 19 July 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Hotel, So So Restaurants I have nothing bad to say about the hotel. This went well during my stay. The restaurants were a different story. The Italian restaurant had dinner there one night. I won't or didn't go back. The Cafe was very good for breakfast but bad for dinner. These two restaurant share the same kitchen. Breakfast to crowded and not sufficient food, Happy Hour food is not always ready, interest of attending staff is limited to give good service. Excelente food at Picasso Restaurant. 19 June 2013

The room was very comfortable with a great bed. The food at the restaurant was always excellent. A nice work out room as well. Taxi to the airport was very easy to arrange. 14 June 2013

(bellboys, concierge, shuttle driver, front desk personnel, restaurant personnel) The service at front desk was also very good Food is excellent, specially at Tanoshi Rest. However Lighting bulbs in cool daylight aren't nice for a room... If you want to work it's ok, but for the table lamps the bulbs have to be warm light.... Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Very Bad Service I can say that it's the worst Intercontinental hotel i have stayed in; very expensive internet service, very bad conexion, worst service i get in my stay. the only good people that i met in this hotel was the bell boys. Hope that you can get a look on what you have as a hotel and what service are you offering because 2 star is too much for the hotel. Having the room clean at 5 PM no internet service, very bad room service, noise in the rooms, etc, 15 May 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Dark Rooms, White lights, terrible shower Rooms are dark and bad lighted, they use saving bulbs, which I appreciate an respect, but they are dead white, it feels like a surgery room. Carpets are old and full of stains. Shower was probably good when it was brand new, but minerals in water clog the holes and you get water every were except were you need it. Finally I couldn't understand how they manage the status. "Yes you have diamond status but in order to have access to the executive launch you have to reserve an executive room..." 13 May 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Hotel without WiFi in every room This was the second time that I had to ask for a change of room because the room that was assigned to me did not have enough WiFi coverage; they gave another room that did have proper wifi coverage but did not have shampoo in the bathroom. For the price that is charged, I am sure that I can find a Hotel with better service. I hope this was the last time that I use this hotel. 09 May 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by BAD RESERVATION INFORMATION When I did my reservation I was told there was not standard room available so if I wanted to stay I had to take a better room, higher price of course. I asked permission to my company and did so. I am an Ambassador member, so and upgrade was offered (no matter what room I was to take, always an up graded it's been received). When arrived at hotel to my surprise I was placed in a normal room (they said there were none) and paying higher rate. I called immediately the General Manager and it took more than 2 hours to solve the problem. I felt cheated because there were no standards rooms, latter I am place in a standard room with higher fare and not upgraded to higher room. Only access to executive floor It was not my best experience in this hotel this time. And again I felt deceived. Things took time to be arranged and I paid for a standard upgraded to a better room, like I was supposed since the beginning. 26 March 2013

The food in the restaurant is excellent and the Sunday breakfast buffet was included in my room price and was very extensive and good. Service overall is excellent. 23 March 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by my stay when i am traveling to Guatemala, the Intercontinental Hotel is my place to stay for various reasons, i feel like home, is close to my office and close to my family (very well located) the only problem i experienced during my stay this time, was that due to many events, i was not able to have breakfast 2 times in the hotel. long lines of people waiting (sometimes over 15 min), and service becomes pretty slow. i wanted to congratulate the hotel, for the new restaurant, (is like a tratoria) is excellent, and the people that host there is excellent. i love this place... 14 March 2013
