Insider Tips

One of Guatemala's most mystical features is its archaeological heritage, the heart of the Maya World. There are countless sites throughout the country that represent the prehispanic Maya Civilization. The signature site is majestic Tikal and Yaxha with its main walk ways and beautiful lagoon; El Mirador, the largest pyramid by volume in the world; Takalik Abaj with the terraces rising 1500 meters from the Pacific and spanning the Olmec to the Maya Civilizations. As archaeologists learn more about the way the Maya lived in harmony with nature and on a sustainable basis, sites like El Pilar, by the Beliza border, recreate a Maya forest garden. It is no coincidence that the newly renamed Peten airport is now the Mundo Maya Airport and that Guatemala is more and more validating her claim as the hearth of the Maya World. The names roll off the tongue: Topoxte, Nakum, Cancuen, Kaminal Juyu, Quirigua, Uaxactun and Iximche, the ancient Kaqchiquel capital.
Located in the affluent Zona Viva, in the heart of business and entertainment of Guatemala City. Our rooms are equipped with 100MB of streaming speed Internet access, soundproof windows, 300 thread cotton sheets, blackout curtains and more. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excelencia !!! Muchas Gracias !!! April 27, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Choice for Guatemala I have stayed in all the top hotels in Guatemala City and the Intercontinental is the true winner if you are seeking quality. From the quality of the room, the great beds, the variety of excellent food and the exceptional staff courtesy -- I highly recommend this facility April 22, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Dining Service in Need of Upgrade Lunch and Dinners take way too long to be served. Waiters take your order and it is not unusual for one to wait 45 minutes before the food shows up. I have found long wait even on evenings where there are only a handful of diners in the restaurant.
