Bath towels are dirty, room windows are not closing properly for light as this room is curtain less. Air conditioner is not working properly, had to call hotel staff.
Club launge is not up to Intercontinental standard, food in launge is very poor and very less choice. Staff in launge are not friendly at all.

My wife and 2 children stayed 1 night either end of Halong Bay
trip, The staff were very polite and attentive,Rooms were fabulous
and priority check in let us take extra yoghurt and spoons for
childrens bus trip to Halong. What can one say when you cannot find
fault ,A credit to hotel management on staff training, Will be returning to vietnam on business and will stay there and highly reccommend
it. Also it was not just a hotel that catered for business persons
but family as well because I couldnt help noticing the subtle way
children were kept from being a disturbance to business persons.
Thank you so much for a memorable stay.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Dna1000 Impeccable hospitality
This is a gorgeous and extremely well run property. The service was impeccable and is overall a great value for the money. The weather in Hanoi in January is not ideal, so would like to return at a warmer, sunnier time of year.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Good hotel, very expensive!
The staff were helpful and seem very willing to assist, especially the guys on the doors organising taxis for me!
The food was good, breakfast was especially good. However, all food at this hotel seems very expensive for what you get. It is tasty and well cooked, but seemed overpriced, especially in comparrision to food within the city.
When I booked over the internet, almost immediately I was asked if i wanted to upgrade the room for another $50 per night. The room was pretty expensive, even taking into account the reduced room rate for advanced booking.
No free wifi in the room. The room rate was expensive enough I would have expected free WiFi!
The buffet dinner was very expensive. Admittedly a lot of choice but you cannot really eat enough to make the cost worthwhile.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Carlj3000 The only recommended Hanoi Hotel
i have stayed in Vietnam many many times, and can honestly say this is by far the best Hotel in Hanoi.
Great location, quite, staff are very frienly, helpful and informed.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JEP56 Lovely hotel, excellent food and staff
Hotel was in a lovely quiet setting but walking distance (if you like a long walk) from the city. Rooms on the lake were lovely.
We had an air-conditioning problem but the staff were onto it very quickly and fitted in with our schedule.
Breakfast was lovely and we were given a small take-away breakfast the morning we had to leave as it was too early for the restaurant to be open.
Staff were always friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by londonspike Great experience in Hanoi
A perfect hotel to explore Hanoi's delights. A little out of town on Westlake although one quickly comes to appreciate this given the manic nature and noise of the old quarter. Our lake view room was probably one of the best in the resort, with an unobstructed view of West lake. Hotel facilities were great including the gym and breakfast buffet, and the staff were nothing but kind and generous, with a special touch of a cake delivered to our room for my wife's birthday!
Staff were generally excellent. We would highly recommend this hotel for anyone staying in Hanoi.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JOhner1 A CLUB TO REMEMBER!!
We have just returned from three weeks in Asia, and had two visits to Hanoi.
We finished off our holiday with a three night stay at the Intercontinental-what a wonderful experience! We decided to pay the extra for the Intercontinental Club which included breakfast and canapes with happy hour-tremendous value and wonderful service.
The staff in the club were particularly helpful-we will always remember the cheerful assistance of Lan Ann!
The room hanging over West Lake was breathtaking.
This was quite possibly the most enjoyable property we have ever stayed in, with several previous trips to Asia.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Aliewz Great environment
Love the fact that the hotel is located on top of the lake. It was pretty cold during winter though, The club room lounge is fabulous and spacious. Simply love it.
The only thing i didnt't quite like is the pillows. It's way too soft and even the selection of pillows from the menu wasn't such a great improvement.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by BangkokDon A delightful romantic hotel
From the junior suite to the club lounge and breakfast, our stay at the intercontinental Westlake could not have been better. The friendliness of the wonderful staff in the club lounge was something special. Rooms were good, although the junior suite balconies were rather poky, amenities in the bathroom superior,
We were able to get a 6 pm checkout as our plane did not leave till 11 pm and this was marvellous.
One criticism...I would have expected a proper coffee machine to make real coffee as is found in other intercontinental properties. Two sachets of that ghastly instant coffee is not appropriate at this level of service.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Pants Language difficulties and poor service
This hotel was by far the worst that I stayed in in South East Asia. To use my iPad I had to be in reception. There was no wifi in my room. An issue because the room was so very far away from the reception. You had to walk to the room via the lake which I didn't find comfortable as I am allergic to insect bites. The staff's command of English was poor and when I encountered a serious problem the staff were dismissive. I had a light supper and couldn't eat the meat as it was too grissly. On one occasion I was seated at a table by one member of staff and then moved on by another. I have simple dietary requirements which their menu didn't cater for. Seemed to be a fine hotel if you were in a big coach party say, but hopeless for an individual travelling alone.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by oseric Beautiful hotel and peaceful respite
All in all a good experience and consistent with Intercontinental Hotels in this region.
Staff are very friendly and helpful ... but at times more sycophantic than efficient. hotel is beautiful but operational issues need refining
Areas needing improvement:
1. Breakfast: quality of food varies enormously from fantastic (bread and pastries) to poor (the way eggs and omelettes are coooked looked like untrained staff "having a go")
2. wifi: only in the lobby. This is a HUGE set back for all travellers who expect wifi in room to accomodate devices, including iPhone and iPad. Most 5 star hotels who dont have room wifi (not many anymore) will put a router in the room as needed. Howver, the staff here just told me to work in the lobby and when i eventually got a promise to look into a router, they never got back to me and nothing materialised.
3 Left luggage is in complete disarray. twice people tried to give me someone else'sluggage, even though it was tagged.
4. Concierge not very knowledgeable or available and seems to want to quickly throw a map onto the counter before lisening to the question. at one point i spent 5 minutes with a helpful Porter before realising he was not hte Concierge ... just jumped in because I was there for a while without service or acknowledgement of my wait ... then a Concierge turned up and took over and I had to start again as he rushed to get rid of me quickly,

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Aussie12 Room for improvement
While the Staff were very friendly everything seemed quite slow. On check-in we ended up bringing our own bags up, because we were waiting so long.
Service at the pool was slow. Suggest maybe a flag system so that it is possible to see if guests require service. There also aren't enough sun beds. More space could be made available by removing some of the planters and also replacing double sun beds with single beds.
Quality of food in the club lounge could definitely be improved and cannot understand why napkins are not provided at happy hour.
Lighting in the room was too dim and cleaning could be iimproved.
We have also stayed at the Intercontinental Asiana in Ho Chi Minh and this hotel was outstanding, would be worth a visit to see how Westlakes could imrove.

This property feels like a resort and the staff knows how to pamper. We held a conference here and all of us agree that we want to go back. Felt like a vacation -- everything exceeded our expectations.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by TonyLSC iPhone charge
I checked in the hotel on 10 Oct 2012 and stayed at room 430. I did not bring my iPhone charger so that I called to the hotel operator to ask if the hotel has iPhone charger for guest usage. A Miss Thanh replied she would check and call me back. Few minutes later she called and informed the hotel does not have iPhone charger, however she is checking if she can borrow one from her colleagues. Few minutes later she called again and informed that she got a iPhone charger from her manager and I can use it for the till the next day.
I really her appreciate her service.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by martinefrance Hotel good, staff excellent but overall hotel a bit cold.
Being platinum and seniors we arrived for the 1st. stay and did get our usual upgrade. Room upstairs and a lot of climbing. They had to change it to a room on the ground level!
The club is very good and the staff excellent.
Nothing to complain about the 2 restaurants, only please, grated cheese for the pasta!
When we checked in for the second time (1 night on points) and 1 night a clubroom we got a very simple room with no view. When we expressed our disappointment they gave us a better room but not what we had the first time. Since the hotel was not full they could have done better.
Pity that there are no chairs on the balcony! We stayed here 4 nights.

Stayed at this property as part of our Uniworld Tour.
This is an amazing property. The buffet breakfast exceeded our expectation. The staff was very friendly and met all our needs.
Only small negative. Rooms close to the atrium can be somewhat noisy when large crowds are gathering.
The Italian restaurant was the best -
