Madrid

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 192 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Meets Most Expectations From an Intercontinental We stayed at this hotel in December for 4 nights. The hotel met most of our expectations. The only two negative items were: Club Lounge was un-attended for significant periods of time and the snack/canape offering in the evenings was very poor (whenever there was something left that is) Mattress quality in our rooms (which were club rooms btw) was not good. Springs could clearly be heard and just was not a high quality mattress. Same applies to the pillows and bed coverings. You can regard everything else as positive in this hotel. Overall I would recommend this hotel. It meets most expectations from an Intercontinental. If they improve their service in the club lounge and the mattress and bedding quality then they will be in par with most other intercontinental hotels I have stayed in. 06 January 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Stay in a Beautiful City! Intercontinental Madrid offers more than comfortable amenities and very attentive front desk staff who were always happy to assist. There is a great hotel bar that offers a variety of tapas and light fare for late night lounging, often with live piano music. Located in more of a business district, tourists will find the metro line a block away and enjoy the tranquility the area has to offer. Perhaps our only challenge was the temperature control in our room - always a little too hot. Overall, a great stay in a beautiful city! 05 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Service, Pricey Everything about this hotel was fanatastic, my only gripe with the price of breakfast and drinks at the bar. The staff was fantastic, I just have a problem paying $8 for a bottle of water at the bar, or almost $50 for breakfast. I guess this is probably normal for a hotel of this caliber but still a shock to me. 03 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by very good stay Thanks to the concierge Alejandro, David, Carlos and Carlos 02 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very pleasant stay * A well run 5* hotel with excellent staff, great service and nice accommodation * Great complimentary Royal Ambassador upgrade to a quiet top floor club room with terrace and club lounge access * A convenient location, next to an underground station so easy connection to the city centre and airport. * I feel very comfortable returning to the Intercontinental Madrid who really cares about Royal Ambassadors Members 10 December 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Relax Stay The staff were very friendly and helpful. Its my pleasure to have a weekend break in Madrid. Would recommend the hotel definitely, easy access to city center and only few minutes away from metro station. If you are IHG members, you will get free Wi-Fi. 22 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect location Staff was excellent, location was perfect...not too far from tourist area but not right in the middle either. 13 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent stay Hotel is terrific. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel welcome. Terrific buffet breakfast, and Club Rooms have a beautiful lounge with snacks/drinks available to guests. Clara, in particular, was so lovely, kind and helpful! Walkable to most of the major museums in Madrid, or, very close to transportation. 03 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very pleasant club room with terrace Club room on 7th floor, with a terrace is around 35 sqm Very classic design. Flat screen television set, with large selection of international channels. Nice marble bathroom with separate walk in shower. Agraria amenities Very quiet despite facing the large avenue (I slept with the windows wide open with no problem). Small terrace with chair and table. Fast wifi The club lounge has very friendly staff Breakfast has been enhanced 2 free PC with Internet and printer (very basic) evening canapés Pretty busy this week-end GOOD The staff is really nice at IC Madrid (from bellboy to concierge, club lounge) Location is very convenient from airport (metro station 80 meters from the hotel) and shopping: the Salamenca district is one of the most elegant for luxury boutiques, concept stores (Isolée, Gallery Madrid, ...) and restaurants (bar Tomate, Fuku, Pan de Lujo, Iroco, etc). Pleasant terrace, perfect during sunny weather BAD The selection of movies on demand is pretty good (some independent films), but the system works very badly (video stops and go very often). 22 October 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Decent, not great We had a decent comfortable stay, nothing spectacular. The concierge were helpful but didn't go out of their way. Some of the concierge staff did make us feel as if they were doing us a favour. However Reception and instant service staff were very helpful. Room was ok but right next to the lift which meant that we had noise of machinery all night long. We weren't moved on request. Nice restaurant. 12 October 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable room, bed and great service The staff of the Hotel is excellent, and having been in other Intercontinental Hotels within the last years, the Club of the Castellana is by far the the best one. I must include the excellent disposition of the Concierge staff. 07 October 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable bed, great night sleep as long as you're not in the room backing onto the cleaning/ linen cupboard! The hotel is quite far out of the main centre. We took the metro or taxi into the centre. Our room was adequate in size, not huge. Coffee, tea sachets as long as you don't drink a lot you'll be fine as only 2 milks. No bottled water in room. Our room was next to the cleaning room/ linen cupboard - staff start going in there at 6am and the door squeaked. Bang, squeak every couple of minutes from 6am onwards is not what you want from a 5 * hotel. We complained to the front desk and the cleaning staff. Did it make any difference? NO, next morning 6am bang, squeak! Prices of drinks at the bar are ridiculous. A 'dram' in the bar cost 1 Euro less than a 70cl bottle of the exact same blend in duty free! Ridiculous. We always went out. Breakfast was really good, large selection and choices, but hot food selection was always only ever 'warm' never hot, but still tasty. All in all it was a nice hotel, but wouldn't choose to stay there if there wasn't a 'deal' on, too far away from the real Madrid experience. 06 October 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Guaranteed comfort and professional staff The Madrid IC fully lives up to the group's reputation for all-round comfort and professional service. Bedroom and bathroom facilities were excellent. The staff demonstrated a good balance of professionalism and friendliness. 01 October 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent 3-day stay We had an excellent stay for 3-days and we received an upgrade to a Club Room. The Concierge was exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable in giving tourist advice, plus making a booking at a Restaurant that did not speak English. The restaurants in Madrid are excellent, but we had a great meal one night in the hotel, as good as any other restaurant we used. We will come back.... 24 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Felt VIP from the beginning This is the fifth time I stay at the Intercontinental in Madrid and I would never consider a different option in my next visits. All my stays have been wonderful, but this one was more special. I highly recommend the Hotel, specially if you are a member of the Club 21 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellence place... Is a very nice location... near to a principal avenue and important squares... 17 September 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable bed and room service the place is excellent except the treatment received by reception staff at night on my arrival Madrid 16 September 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Classic Hotel Good location, classic, excellent staff an service! 14 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Unique experience The Royal Suite was given to me for a very special rate. This was a unique experinece - the best suite I have ever had. My colleagues were quite jealous. While appreciating that this was something special and one-off, we noted that the Intercontinental Madrid is an excellent hotel. In particular, having been there so many times, we are delighted about the staff in the Club Lounge and the restaurant. 14 September 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Reception It took longer than normal to check me in. I didn't receive my daily news paper as a priority/IHG member I didn't receive my welcome fruite basket as a priority/IHG member 01 September 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great service Enjoyed our stay at the Intercontinental Madrid especially the club and daily sumptuous breakfast. Service was excellent. Had to take the Metro to the major attractions but that was fine as it wasnt as noisy in the street as places in Gran Via 24 August 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A very pleasant stay. As Always. We regularly stay at the Intercontinental when in Madrid. We have been doing so for the past 10 years. It is so pleasant to be recognised by the staff in almost every department from Carmen and Fatima at the switchboard to the concierges, and the receptionists. Everything during our stay was most enjoyable, if any suggestion for improvement can be made it is the setting of the Club lounge in August. That was a disappointment particularly if one has used it as often as we have during any other month of the year. I understand that it is an expense to have so much available during the low season, but then it no longer represents value for the customer so an alternative option or suggestion should be made to the customer on registration. Thanks to a wonderful team at the Intercontinental Madrid 18 August 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great time It was a great experience to be again at Intercontinental Madrid. Perfect in each detail. Staff is always ready to turn your stay easy and delightful. Concierge works to help you with anything you need in the city. It is located in one of best part in Madrid, easy access to and from anyplace. Reaaly great. 02 August 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not too Happy As a gold member which almost 3 weeks booking, I got a room without a window even thought I was on the club deal. The only thing that I can say was good is the door man carlos and the lady who answer the phone Fatima...there were really very nice and helpful. The rest it was just normal. Another bad experince I had, they told me that teh club close at 11:00PM...but at 10:30 PM the service guys told us to leave at 10:30 which is really not a good way of representing the hotel image. 02 August 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by High Quality Stay in Madrid Check-in was protracted and drawn out but eventually reached my room which was lovely with a balcony overlooking the rear of the hotel. I felt breakfast was over priced for what was on offer and certainly compared to other IHG properties. Concierge was helpful with restaurant recommendations. Metro station 2 minutes away so easy to reach all parts of city. 28 July 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 The hotels best asset is the staff Knowledgeable. Serviceminded. Always there with a smile, This is the 2nd time I have stayed at Intercontinental Madrid. It is a nice hotel. It is not amongst the best hotels I have stayed in, but the staff there make the stay very pleasant. The Club Lounge is brilliant, Not for the evening nibbles (they are quite boring and end very quickly). Not for the afternoon tea. But for the breakfast - the chef is wonderful and the waiters are very nice. Being a Platinum Ambassador I have been spoilt by several IC hotels with very surprisingly good upgrades of room. Not in IC Madrid - the "upgrade" is a Clubroom (already reserved and paid for) but with a view of Paseo de Castellana. So the "upgrade" is a noisier room with a small window facing the street.... 20 July 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good business hotel Booked a Club Room which grants access to the Club Lounge on the first floor. This was my third stay at IC Madrid and the hotel lived up to expectations. Rooms are with classic furnishings and nicely appointed which make you feel immersed in the grandeur of the city. Rooms are clean, comfortable and lack nothing. All the amenities that you are used to from other IC properties can also be found here. Towels were new and of great quality, very heavy and fluffy. Attention was given to profile information such as pillow preferences etc. Minibar well stocked. The lounge on the first floor can be accessed via elevator or quick walk up a grand staircase and you can check in and out there. Breakfast has a decent selection, perhaps not opulent but adequate. There’s the egg menu from which you can choose a freshly prepared egg dish. If you like eggs and potatoes I can highly recommend the “tortilla española” which was fluffy and very well made. You’re welcomed by staff who promptly offer freshly squeezed orange juice and water and take your order. At other times the lounge features snacks, sweets, soft drinks, coffee and through its elongated layout offers some privacy to sit and relax. Overall the hotel reflects the high standards of the brand. One word of caution, however, is about the prices of consumables such as minibar and items on the room service menu which appeared rather excessive. Since I have not had a chance to go out for dining I am not sure if it is line with price levels for food and drink in the city but you be the judge. I added a few pictures which I took with my blackberry so please excuse the quality. 12 July 2013
