LOCAL CULTURE

Dress Code and tipping in Restaurants

Most restaurants don't require formal dress. However, a number of very prestigious restaurants require jacket and tie. Normal operating hours for restaurants in Madrid are from 1pm to 3.30pm and 9pm to 11.30pm. It's reasonable to leave a 10 percent tip.
A LANDMARK MADRID HOTEL ON PASEO DE LA CASTELLANA
An 18th-century palace was the inspiration for this emblematic hotel in Madrid, situated on one of the city's most famed thoroughfares at the upscale area of Castellana Boulevard. Ideally located in the cultural and business district, the hotel is minutes from the Prado Museum, Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, Real Madrid Museum and elegant Serrano shopping district. Culinary delights include El Jardin with a beautiful terrace and an exquisite menu overseen by renowned head Chef José Luque.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Outstanding InterContinental Madrid is what you expect from a 5 * hotel. From the moment you arrive you can notice it by how you are received, Great room and cleanliness in all areas and very nice variety at the Bar and Restaurant. Certainly that when back to Madrid it will be my choice. 23 July 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Lovely city stay My eleven year old son and I recently stayed at the Madrid Intercontinental hotel whilst attending a 'learn Spanish' programme at a local language school. The staff were patient and kind as we tried our best every day with simple phrases. The room was good, though a little dark with a small window, which wasn't what I expected from a club room if honest, but we just slept in it so no major issue. The lounge was great with friendly, kind and attentive staff esp the female breakfast chef and male breakfast waiter. The concierge desk was both informative and efficient. Finally it was my birthday during the stay and the hotel kindly placed a bottle of Cava in my room as a surprise which was very much appreciated and a nice touch. Overall a lovely stay and we would return. 23 July 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Facility in Madrid Spain We had a party of 5, and stayed in connecting rooms. The hotel is immaculate, and the people where very courteous and playful with the children. They made everyone feel welcome. We recently visited another chain in Paris, France and the InterContinental in Madrid truly made us feel at home, and welcoming. Thanks for making our last days on our holiday very memorable! 21 July 2014
