Insider Tips

LOCAL CULTURE

Dress Code and tipping in Restaurants

Most restaurants don't require formal dress. However, a number of very prestigious restaurants require jacket and tie. Normal operating hours for restaurants in Madrid are from 1pm to 3.30pm and 9pm to 11.30pm. It's reasonable to leave a 10 percent tip.
A LANDMARK MADRID HOTEL ON PASEO DE LA CASTELLANA
An 18th-century palace was the inspiration for this emblematic hotel in Madrid, situated on one of the city's most famed thoroughfares at the upscale area of Castellana Boulevard. Ideally located in the cultural and business district, the hotel is minutes from the Prado Museum, Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, Real Madrid Museum and elegant Serrano shopping district. Culinary delights include El Jardin with a beautiful terrace and an exquisite menu.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by the Madrid hotel to die for we spent 3 nights at the Intercontinental Madrid in late August. Our check in was effortless. The room was actually a small suite with separate living and bedroom places. The bathroom was enormous and beautiful. The staff was the absolute best, and the layout of the hotel was glorious. We also had access to the Club for breakfast and all day snacks and drinks. The choices were appetizing and beautifully prepared and layed out. The location was perfect, in walking distance of the best shopping and dining places and museums in the city. Over all, this was about as perfect a hotel experience we have had in our over 30 years of international travel. We are looking forward to coming back. August 30, 2015
