Stayed 2 nights in mid-August on BOGO. Had booked a mid-range 'king with terrace' and got, I was assured at check-in, a 'triple-upgrade' to a prestige suite. Which was a suitably spectacular high-ceilinged suite of rooms, with my favourite part being the stand-alone bath.
Promptly delivered welcome gift was a delicious bottle of local rose wine, along with some plums and a bottle of water. The plums and water were renewed for the second night.
It's such an historic building, slap-bang in the middle of a very historic area, and they obviously took a great deal of care in the renovation and it shows.
Found all staff interactions to be good,
Had a delicious dinner at Les Fenetres restaurant on the terrace as the sun set. It's a beautiful sight looking out on to the Old Port and across to the cathedral on the hill. Although for early-to-bed, early-to-rise types like us the fact nothing really starts to get going till 8pm was a little tricky, though that's more true of Marseille in general than the hotel specifically.
The hotel sits cheek by jowl with slightly less salubrious areas which, for me, is a plus as I like the city buzz but others may find it less so, that said the hotel sits as something of an island with only one way in and out.
All in all an excellent hotel

Probably one of my finest hotel experience, standard room are large enough, very comfy, huge bathroom, breakfast buffet with marseille view was perfect. Same for gym and spa.
Definetly coming back !

Returned back one year after our first stay. The hotel is as new and good as it was when opened; service/staff has improved substantially (there were some minor hiccups after the opening but now all gone). A perfect place to stay in Marseille overlooking the old port, beautiful setting of the property (old hospital very wisely converted), nice and tidy modern rooms.
Bravo to the hotel staff, in particular, Pascale.

Perfectly situated between the artistic Le Panier quarter and the Vieux Port, the Hotel Dieu's magnificent setting, superb amenities and warm Provencal welcome place it right at the top end of hospitality experiences. Visiting for 4 nights as a family with 2 teens, we found that our rooms were extremely comfortable and regularly serviced; the air conditioning was quiet but highly effective and we we never short of towels or fluffy bathrobes. The terrace of the bar and restaurant must be amongst the most spectacular anywhere. The brasserie Les Fenetres, although not cheap, was very good indeed. All aspects of the welcome and service were warm and highly efficient. It would perhaps be invidious to single out any one aspect above any other, but special mention must be made of the knowledge and highly positive attitude of the concierge team. This was our first stay in an InterContinental and a first visit to Marseille, but probably not the last in either case. Highly recommended.
Room Tip: We had very satisfactory rooms facing the back, but those with a more ample budget would not regret splashing out on accommodation facing Le Vieux Port and the spectacular Notre Dame de la Garde - simply stunning.

Magnificent view from our room and wonderful staff made our stay fantastic.
We came with a 6-month old baby and he too was treated like a king (with gifts, lots of attention from staff,etc.)
Location is perfect for visits and shopping.
Only thing is I would have appreciated some more high tech equipments like an ipod dock.

While the hotel building and location are an incredible adventure, it is the friendly and very professional staff that made our stay a perfect and memorable event. From the initial staff at the front desk to the restaurant, lounge attendees and housekeeping the personnel were well trained and helpful without being intrusive. A special thank you to Jonathan and Sylvia for their recommendations and enjoyable conversation on the local area. We look forward to a return visit and would recommend this hotel to everyone visiting Marseille.

Second time stayed this hotel.
All was perfect again.
Specially the building ( was an old hospital) is interesting.
And nice location.
Very nice staff. Everywhere, reception, entry, breakfast, spa etc.
room service is wonderfull.
My upgrade done well and kindly.
Perfect wellcome drink and food.
Only very small issue that swimming pool and spa close to early. On case it will be 2more hours later, would br better.
Thanks for that concept to Intercontinental.

It must be one of the best hotels that I have had experienced in my international travel. The location of the hotel is in the heart of the port area of Marseille. The view from the front of the hotel is unbelievably pretty. The services provided by the well- trained staff make you feel that you are their most treasured customers. The food served in the various restaurants is truly outstanding and of the highest quality. The rooms size is exceedingly comfortable and so are the beds. It makes the perfect base for your visit to the southern part of France. It is a must try experience!

When we checked into our room, we found that the WC and the toilet compartment in our bathroom was wet and the wc was dirty from the previous guest use, which was both a shock and an immediate turn off.
Fortunately, housekeeping was prompt and sent staff to clean the bathroom and also the guest room door which was covered in hand and finger marks.
It appeared that the room had suffered due to a very fast turn around from the previous occupant, which we appreciated after a long flight but at the same time for a hotel of this standard it was a shock.
Otherwise our stay was most enjoyable except for one of the male concierge staff who was quite rude and snobbish. By contrast, his colleagues and the bell staff were outstanding.

The Marseille Intercontinental Hotel Dieu is an outstanding property. The building is one of the more striking structures in the city and the owners have done a phenomenal job renovating it and making it a truly five-star experience. Our room was very comfortable and very clean and the upgrade we paid for to have a balcony was well worth the money as it was almost like having a separate living room. We would highly recommend the property to anyone travelling to Marseille.

The staff was outstanding! Courteous, friendly, and helpful. Only down fall, breakfast service was a little slow and waters, juices, coffee hard to get, my coffee in the room was not provided daily, and I was over charged for the mini bar. I was charged 40eu but only used the power converter that was priced at 12 Euro.
When I called about the coffee in the room it was rectified in a matter on minutes! Well done! The mini bar over charge I didn't realize till I departed so this is the first time I have mentioned it.
Love the Intercontinental experience overall. Hats off to the staff overall!

The service could be improved, especially in housekeeping. Guest requests for any additional amenities should be noted and provided especially after reminders and proper turndown service should be provided.
At breakfast, the staff should clear away used plates etc esp when they see that table is crowded. The hotel was well staffed. It would have been nice if the bell boys / doorman had advised us that our taxi to airport had arrived (we were sat in the lobby) rather than for us to check everytime a taxi arrived at the entrance. Usual service aspects I have come to expect in a 5* hotel.
Location is great and the views from the terrace bar are amazing!

Paris has his Eiffel tower, Marseille has his Hotel Dieu Intercontinental !

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights for vacation and really loved this excellent hotel. Excellent location, facilities, dining and staff especially Concierge staff who recommended us many good places to visit and restaurants for dining. Proactively helped us to make a reservation in advance. The Alcyone restaurant is one of the best restaurant in town in terms of food quality and services.
The only area of improvement is to house keeping services. The hotel floor was not clean enough even though after cleaning.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful and each piece of art and furniture was carefully chosen to create a perfectly outstanding experience. Every person whom I encountered was helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and seemed genuine in wanting me to enjoy my stay.
The room was beautifully finished, pristine and comfortable in terms of the bed, the upholstered pieces, the closet/safe area and the beautiful and amazing bathroom/shower. It was a decorators delight!

This hotel is gorgeous and the room was equally beautiful. The bathroom and bedroom are HUGE. There is a separate shower from the tub and a very large vanity. The coffee/cocoa/tea station in the room was very well stocked with delicious options. The bed was MUCH bigger than a standard King and was very comfortable. We booked a rate that included breakfast - it was the best, most complete, amazing and delicious breakfast.
I only wish we had arrived earlier to use the spa facilities!

Our room was with terrace and harbor view after the hotel staff upgraded my room.
The room was AWESOME.
Very beautiful view to NOTRE DAME and HARBOR, and
the Terrace was just perfect and wonderful.

Very goog place to stay, will definetely come back next time. The only thing i did not like - they used a trick calls - "charging me extra money for the "upgrading" my room to the better one", that they did not have to do to me, once i travveled with my wife on her birthday./ The rest is good.

The hotel is beautiful and centrally located in Marseille. The view from the terrace is breathtaking and the interior is modern and very well-appointed. Our trip started on a pleasant note when we got a free upgrade for one of the rooms we reserved (we were two families). However the service went downhill from there. We arrived at 1:30 pm and could not access the second room until 4 pm. We immediately requested a crib for our daughter but got first a pull-out bed that would not fit in the room and then had to wait another hour for a crib. Thus, we were not able to put our daughter for a nap until 3:30 pm. Waiting for the crib we decided to go for lunch at the restaurant of the hotel. Unfortunately it was understaffed and we had to wait for 45 minutes before getting 2 cold entrees (we were discouraged to take warm entrees as it would take much longer).
So magnificent hotel but not the top notch service you would expect from a 5 stars hotel and that we experienced in other Intercontinental hotels before.
