The staff is wonderful, the room comfortable, and the food very good. However, the view left something to be desired (a brick wall), and the first night our neighbors were a little noisy until around 1:00am. Is the room location due to Travelzoo?

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Lovesgoodservice Didn't live up to my expectations
Although our visit to Monterey was quite memorable, our stay at The Clement was not. The hotel is in a perfect location right in the thick of the action of Cannery Row and right on the beautiful bay of Monterey yet the service provided by an undertrained staff and overall design of the hotel we found quite lacking,
The service staff although extremely friendly did not quite grasp the concept of how to provide the type of service that the expense of the hotel warranted. When charging the fares we were charged we expected to receive more than mediocrity in this regard. I would highly recommend not only to train the staff on what to say and what to do at "valet, check in, the bar, the outdoor lounge, room service, and concierge" but to also take it one step further and train them on the overall concept of what defines exceptional customer service and then to expect it of them on a regular basis. Let me repeat however, every person who helped us was extremely nice and incredibly friendly which made it all ok.
One of the reasons we chose this hotel was because of the great look as portrayed from the wonderful photos on the hotels website. However upon arrival we found the actual hotel design and layout odd. There is a very nice seating area in the middle of the hotel, but unless you take the time to explore and walk past the check in...you would never know it was there. The outdoor patio located in front of this seating area seemed unfinished. This patio is actually surrounded by the hotel walls themselves and thus feels "closed" in and claustrophobic. Perhaps just better seating, lighting and maybe even some plants or something other than the two fire pits would lend to an atmosphere in which one would wish to sit enjoy the view of the water. As far as the pool (which is really not necessary to have in Monterey weather). Why even mention to it to guests other than to say its an extension of the work out area....a lap pool. The "Ocean Terrace" I believe it was called...hmmm....I felt sorry for the guests staying in the rooms whose patio doors opened up to the terrace as the lack of privacy they would experience during a Reception of any sort would be unbearable. Also valet should be covered..guests staying in rooms directly above the valet drop off and pick up should not have to experience the smells of exhaust and hear the sounds of engines while they are in their rooms.. The design like the service just felt like good effort but not quite up to par.
I am planning my next trip to San Francisco now, and I have already passed on the Intercontinental chain as an option if this hotel is an indication of what to expect.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by antrump12 Dont Use a debit card
I used my debit card, I made sure I had enough to cover my stay. Which was about 950 dollars including valet and the aquarium ticket. I made sure I had 1000 dollars to cover it. They authorized 600 dollars the first night and then tried to charge 400 plus the second night it didnt go through. So they decided to authorize 20 different transactions. I am now overdrawn 500 dollars. I checked in on the 16 and checked out on the 18th. It is the 23rd and I have not been credited. I have no access to my money and they have not offered anything in return. I am frustrated. The hotel was great except for this situation.

Excellent location, service, and amenities. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the local options for dining, nightlife, and travel. Beautiful Pacific Ocean view from the exceptionally clean and stylish suite with a fireplace. The Clement Eggs Benedict for breakfast capped off a very memorable and enjoyable stay.
There's nothing else I could have wanted while staying at the Clement. I truly look forward to staying here again the next time I'm in the area.

Very much enjoyed my stay. Was there on business but enjoyed the surrounding area without having to take my car....staff was incredibly attentive, room was very nice with comfy king bed, fireplace and very nice modern bathroom.
Have stayed in Monterey/Carmel area many times and have to say that this was a pleasant surprise....would definitely stay again and have already recommended to my friends and colleagues.

We spent two nights at The Clement Monterey. The suite overlooking the Pacific was outstanding. The hotel was very comfortable, quiet, and convenient to the amenities offered on Cannery Row. The concierge and staff were very helpful and polite. We would definitely choose to stay here again and to recommend The Clement to others for their trip.

Same room Dec 2012 and January 2013, hope the next time will be the same. Room 366, looking both way of Cannery Row and the ocean. Warm and comfy fireplace. More than enough room to stretch out and relax..
Breakfast at C-Bar, YOUR Clement Eggs Benedict ... can't be beat.
Will definitely return, can't get enough of Monterey, Cannery Row and Clement Hotel.
FYI: you have a nice chair in the room, BUT, for a handicap person, one a little higher would be more manageable. Like the raised toilet in ADA rooms, a regular height 'lounge' chair is a little hard to lift out of.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by JamesB1 Nice rooms
Everything was OK except for the Housekeeping service. The Housekeeping did not do the turn service for room 403 until I called and requested it every evening. I had family in rooms 401 and 403. Turn down service was deplorable at best. Had trun down done correctly only the first nite - bed sheets folded down, ice provided, dirty towels replaced, chocolates.
No shampoo the second night in room 401 when we returned from a day trip.
I thought there was supposed to be quality service when staying in the rooms facing the water.
Cluadia was excellent in the room service.
Lucille provided excellent information.
Housekeeping Left message at 1:24 the second day saying they could not clean the room due to the do not disturb sign being posted. But never checked back later in the afternoon and did not clean or provide towels for room 403.

First class service during our stay at the Intercontinental -- including the concierge staff, the bellhop, and the parking attendants. Nice accommodations at a fantastic location right on Cannery Row.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by brightson Location, location, location
This hotel is located directly across from the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Cannery Row seems quite touristy, like Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco, but the Aquarium is world class and a definite star. Rather than having specific species it focus on the ecology of the Bay, from beachside to deep trench. There are many activities and displays that appeal to children.
The hotel itself is attractive, subdued in decoration which was calm and pleasant. Staff were excellent. The restaurant was quite book, albeit a little pricey.
I hate having to pay for internet service in a four star hotel when it is free at local B and Bs and internet cafes.

The suites are incredible. Just a wonderful place to take the family. We came with our 21 month old and a 2 week old, the suite was a luxury we weren't expecting.
Room service portions are tiny, so I would recommending if you are going to eat in, going out to pick up the food from one of the many surrounding restaurants.

I can't say enough about this hotel. Impeccable room with a gas fireplace, giant bathroom, comfy beds. Immaculately clean. A step up from our usual hotel chain choice. Not that we didn't pay for that step up! We purchased a one night package that included a two day pass to the aquarium next door- wonderful, yet pricey. But totally worth the splurge if you are in Monterey. We were a family of four.

After some disapointments in L.A. Century City Intercontinental, my wife and I were very pleased to discover the perfect Clement Monterey Intercontinental. Rooms are modern and elegant, quiet, with all features (chemneys!) and the views are just nice and authentique. The concierge recommended great restaurants (Whaling Station, ...), the vallet was very useful in various explanations, so everything that is paid for worths it.
I'll come back there for sure!

Had a Great stay at the IC Monterey. Checking staff very welcoming. Super rooms and very centrally located. Pool is tiny so we never used it. Concierge more interested on chatting to her friends than helping guests. Didn't want to know. Only staff member I could criticize others were superb. Be patient at breakfast time but when it arrives its very good. Would definitely recommend a stay here super comfy beds . 2 doubles beds great for families.

This hotel was very clean. Staff was extremely friendly, as well as the valet service. The room with fireplace was a very nice touch and the workout room was very satisfactory. In addition, the pool was a little small, but it is very romantic. I would recommend this hotel for couples and the fireplace rooms are a must!

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by MLS9 Room was not clean
Checked in on Christmas Eve only to find out that my room was not clean (housekeeping had not dusted the room and it looked like it hadn't been dusted in a very long time). I let the hotel know 2x but the issue was not taken care of until the next day when housekeeping did the daily cleaning of the room).
Also, there was only one robe and pair of slippers - the hotel knew their were 2 guests in the room.
Lastly, the bathroom sink did not produce hot water.
