LOCAL
RECOMMENDATIONS
MORNINGAfter breakfast, head for the Grand Mosque, one of the biggest in the Middle East. Next, on to the fish market: the real hustle and bustle happens early so don't leave your visit too late. In order to get an understanding of the local culture and heritage, don't miss the Bait Al Zubair Museum in Old Muscat. The Sultan's residence, the Al Alam Palace, and the two 16th century Portuguese forts, Jalali and Mirani, are all interesting buildings. |
AFTERNOONAfter lunch take a stroll along the corniche and take a walk up to the frankincense burner: a monument on top of a small hill which gives you a great view over the city. Continue to the souk where you can start bargaining for local handicrafts, spices and a myriad of other things. For a beautiful sunset continue to the terrace of the Crowne Plaza, perched on cliffs overlooking the sea. |
EVENINGTo finish the day, have a relaxing evening stroll along Qurum beach which will bring you back to the hotel. For dinner, I would choose a typical Arabic restaurant, which serves authentic local fare. |
LOCAL CULTUREClothingBring a light jacket during winter for cool evenings. Don't forget your swimwear. What to wearOman is a Muslim country: please dress modestly but comfortably. Woman should wear skirts below the knee. TipsA guest can tip the staff at his discretion. WeatherThe climate in Muscat is hot and humid from April till September, and pleasant with temperature ranging from 18 to 23 in the evenings from October till April.
