Quite small; staff very efficient. Mid-afternoon sandwiches were quite good. Went for "canapés" and thought we were in a totally different hotel. Dried out over-cooked and tasteless satays; fish cakes that tasted like ground stale tuna with floor trimmings - sorry but the fish cakes were inedible and nothing like a Thai Fish Cake or an English style fish cake - so not sure what they were supposed to be. Very basic offering for a canapé service as was offered.
Everything else in the hotel ticked the boxes 'though. Don't miss breakfast - although the pork sausages have seen better days........

Overall this hotel offers a god experience for the regular business traveler. The executive lounge and staff are excellent, good selection of foods and options available.
However the hotel, which is old, needs to seriously address the overall restaurant options. The primary restaurant is a "buffet" based concept that needs a radical overhaul. The food selections, nightly rotated across ethnic lines, offer tired, rehashed food options that have seen better times. The food offered is old, stale, dull and just not very appetizing in general and sometimes bares no resemblance to the theme night in question.
Since Musandam is the central dinning option, it needs to be addressed and would benefit from the addition of more "live" cooking stations in place of the staid silver doomed buffer options.

The first time I stayed at the Intercon in Muscat was in 1996 (?). It is still an impressive hotel, but I notice that some things are showing their age, such as the equipment in the health club. While the service in the Club Lounge was excellent, the service in the Musandum left something to be desired. The hotel is still a rock star but there are some runs in the fishnet stockings.

I have been using Intercontinental Hotel facility within the GCC and Levant since many years.
I can confirm that I feel comfortable all the way through despite the small and minor observations.
I have with my family good memories about the property in OMAN, as we have spent almost 7 years members of the intercontinental Club from the period of early 1990 till September 1996.
Ever since, I am always returning to this hotel and I feel at home.
Same feeling I have as well in other Intercontinental hotels who are offering comfort and reliability across all of their services.
