Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by PBAbuDhabi Excellent service, beautiful view from the room and very friendly staff
I visited Oman last Thursday, 26th May 2014 with my family for 2 days and the first day we stayed in InterContinental Muscat. Our plan was to stay in InterCon for one night and go to another hotel in Muscat for spending the second day. However within couple of hours after checking in, we decided to stay both days in InterCon. The service was excellent, staffs were so friendly, rooms were neat, clean, beads were very comfortable and we really enjoyed the nice food, sea view from the room and other facilities such swimming pool etc.
We are so glad that we selected InterCon hotel for our stay in Muscat and we really appreciate the excellent service provided by the hotel staff. Special thanks to Frebin- Coffee shop asst manager, Henry – Pub Manager, Yonis – Risk Manager, Nadir – Reception staff, Sam – Room service manager who made our stay so wonderful. Also many thanks to Indika of engineering dept who suggested us to select the InterCon for out stay in Muscat.

Unfortunately this hotel simply is not up to 5 Star Intercontinental standard. In fact the nearby Crowne Plaza is much better. This property is old and tired. Overall the service is poor and despite several attempts by management to make my several stays over last year better, the same issues persist. Staff are demoralized and there is high turnover. Management just seem to say "all will be well' and they are not. One suspects were it not for its history in Muscat as the first ***** hotel it would have lost that status a long time ago. It is a pity as the location is good and the grounds charming, as are some of the staff. No one likes to complain but likewise no guest should dread returning to any hotel!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Overall a great and relaxing stay
my first visit to this property and based on my experience would more than likely stay here again. a great breakfast is laid on in the mornings which ticks all the right boxes. i loved the pool area and although also open to the general public there was plenty of spaces and enough loungers. There is a small shopping center opposite the hotel if you want to look around or find alternative venue to eat in. the location near the beach and the opera house makes it s perfect place from which to explore Muscat. the hop on red bus and taxis also leave from the hotel or close to the hotel in the case of the red bus. all the staff I interacted with were friendly and helpful.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by ZeXof Old school and therefore too expensive
Yes the lobby hotel has a lot of charms, Yes, the pool is great, yes, the trader vicks food is excellent, yes the staff does its best to deliver... But the hotel is totally out of standard for this price, definitely due to the age of the premises... I'll stay in UAE from now if i want to spend that much money and get the full experience (Liwa, Dubai, etc...)

Very old rooms not up to usual Intercontinental standard - Grounds nice but rooms destroy the whole experience - Upgraded room was as bad as normal - would never stay there again if I can avoid it

... is one of my most beloved ones as a business traveller. It truly reflects the Omani hospitality. The location is ideal, also for strolling around the coastline, having several food and coffee outlets nearby.
A special point for excellency must be given to the Club Lounge crew and the concierge team!

I had a great time in this hotel. I think it is one of the best hotels I have stayed for business.
As there is always room for growing, I will point out that a little bit more attention should be paid to the bathtub tile cleanness. There are dark spots in the grouts that join the tiles together. That can be improved.
Thank you for your kindness Omani people are great!

I have stayed in many intercontinental hotels around the world but I must say this is one of the worst. They don't understand the concept of being a 5 star hotel. They have no respect for their Ambassadors either. For what they charge you would expect something allot better.

The food is delicious, a plus for the breakfast where you can enjoy a perfect cafe. The use Nespresso machine. This is perfect. the food is also delicious.
The garden is splendid with 2 swimming pool. One for swimming under the shadows and a nother one for the fun. there are both perfectly clean.
A great hotel for a week end or more.
I repeat again but this is perfect. Nothing bad to say.
Continue like that.
I wioo come back for sure.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Kat21 Surprised that this was an Intercontinental Hotel
I have stayed in several Intercontinental hotels, but this was a huge disappointment. The room absolutely WREAKED of carpet fresh powder or something like it, reminding me of a cheap roach motel. It literally made me sick to my stomach, and I had to open the windows for several hours just to get the room to a point I didnt feel nauseous. I wasnt even sure that the maids cleaned the room bc I found a welcome note and box of dates left for a previous guest. It did appear that the sheets were changed, at least, but no one came to turn down the bed in the evening. The bathroom was in major need of upgrade and repair. There was a rusted and outdated metal medicine cabinet and a tiny bathtub with the glaze peeling off the inside of the tub. The room didnt even have adaptor outlets for european appliances which is something standard in high end hotels today. And when I called for an adaptor, they brought me one that didnt fit european appliances. So the concierge brought me what he said was his personal adaptor. It was awkward but did the job. Sheesh!! And finally, the front desk doesnt tell you about this, but they sneak in an added fee, something "for the poor people" as the receptionist told me when I called a few days after checkout and i saw the fee. He said I could have it removed. No problem in giving, but they should have asked me if I want to donate rather than sneaking it in. At least the breakfast was good. Dont think I will be back to this particular Intercon, though.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Jervaulx Muscat Intercon - still a great stay
The Muscat Intercon is a quality venue with first class staff. Rooms are nicely appointed but the bathrooms are dated and need freshening. The latter had an over-bath shower which would not suit tall guests such as myself. However, this excepted a stay at this hotel still provides a pleasant and restful experience.
The grounds are super with separate quiet and activity areas. The pools are excellent and the long and open beach is easily accessible. Noise from external functions in the grounds can intrude on the peace and quiet of the gardens and grounds area but does not invade the guest rooms.
A great place for a break out of the Western winter.

The room, although non-smoking, smelled terribly bad (like cold tobacco actually)
Room and bathrooms are rather tired.
The food I ordered in my room was simply awful and had to stop half-way through (chicken shawarma and arabic mezze). The food was delivered in less than 15mns, and obviously prepared in advance.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by PCGDxb Ants!
Room was infested with ants. Was working through the night and had coffee from room service. While drinking, discovered ants crawling all over the tray and around the sugar.
Didn't have the time to afford complaining and changing rooms, but shocked that simple measures for insects are not taken care of, specially in a desert country right on the beach.
Was obviously not an isolated problem, as I saw another ant in the bathroom.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Johnny traveller Great stay at a great location
The Intercon in Muscat does not have the glitz of some of the other 5 star hotels in Muscat but it has the best location. It is also cheaper. It is overlooking the beach and is great for walking into town, along the beach or along the corniche. There is a shopping centre next door where there are food and coffee outlets so you are not restricted to the hotel.
Mutrah souk and cornice and old Muscat are within an easy taxi ride away.
There are extensive gardens going down to the beach with two good sized pool. Good choice of food outlets. We had a great seafood BBQ one night.
Well recommended for a relaxing stay

I ask twice if I can use my voucher of Intercon for this 3rd night I staayed with you and staff agreed. Then I missed while paying to check the invoice where the 3rd night was charged although I got promised that the voucher will be ok for the 3rd night.
Please check and correct the invoice with deposit on my credit card.
Moreover I have to say that on estaff member who took care on my fax was very polite and helpful.
But hte reason why he had to help me is that the equipment of the business centre is very poor and old. The fax can only send one page each!!!
Moreover the Intercon club lounge was very nice and the people very friendly, The conference room was extremly helpful for us and I appreciated the extended time we could use it during my stay.
However I enjoyed it to stay but I want you to correct my invoice because of this voucher matter.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by TDiddy Decent Hotel
This Hotel is a little dated. Considering the standards for Intercontinental Hotels, this one needs a little refurbishment. But it is an overall decent hotel.
There were a few issues which you don't expect to happen at this level of a hotel: drain of the shower would not open, so I had to take the cover off which was disgusting; vents didn't look like they've been cleaned in a while, shower curtain rod was completely rusted and the TV looked like it was the first LCD they ever made.
Besides that the staff was helpful, and the big plus is that Trader Vics is attached to the hotel which offered good albeit pricing food.
The club was a little weak with their offering and not very comfortable for the business traveler (Who I assume would be the primary user of the club).
Decent not great.

We are journalists and have to work out of the room, in and out hotels on a notice and never know how long we will satay in the country. At Intercon Muscat they gave us a great room and made sure we did not have to move even though we are checking in and out every 3 to four days which is the maximum we are allowed by our media agency.
The hotel gardens are great to disconnect from work and the city and the location is perfect to go anywhere in Muscat.

What a great experience. This is a really nice hotel - rooms are lovely and well maintained, Staff were very friendly. Lots of greenery. Just walk through a gateway to the public beach where lots of people enjoying walking and football in friendly atmosphere. Great location - within 5 minutes walk to shopping area with lots of cafes. The only thing I would improve is to have more Arabic staff to make guests feel that they are in Arabia.

I wasn't going to write a review, but since you ask, I though some feedback might be useful.
I have stayed in the Muscat Intercontinental many times, starting shortly after it was built. My distinct impression is that the standard of service gas deteriorated considerably recently. I give you some examples.
1. At this time of year, I don't want air conditioning. It is not needed. I switched it off, but it got switched on again which wastes energy. Also, the temperature was set at 9°C which is ridiculously low. I really think that the air conditioning should be off when the room is not occupied to save energy. Many hotels have a system where the A/C gets switched on by inserting the room card into a special slot on entering the room. That would be a good idea I would have thought.
2. In the bathroom, there is a helpful notice asking one to put the towels on the floor if you want them changed. I did not put them on the floor as I didn't want them changed, but they were all changed anyway, until I put a note next to the sign saying I didn't want them changed.
3. The quality of the food in the restaurant has deteriorated significantly. It used to be rather good, now it is mediocre at best.
All in all, I am afraid I was rather disappointed by my visit on this occasion.
