Had to be in City for personal reasons and the Intercontinental Times Square had no reward nights avaliable so I booked the Barclay using 50000 points. I should have stayed at the Holiday Inn on 57th Street for 25000 PTS. Was not even reckonized as an Ambassador at check in. No room upgrade. Floor I was in was under construction and was not notified till I got to room and saw a small sign in the corridor. Very noisy. I have stayed at many Intercontinental Properties in the last few months on Business Travel and was treated like a King ( Mostly in Asia ).
I would send this entire staff to the Intercontinental Coex in Seoul, South Korea to learn how to treat an Ambassador member. I will not stay at the Barclay again till I hear there have been major changes

I was happy for the Platinum Royal Ambassador treatment. Upgraded to a Junior suite and free mini-bar. But was astonished that I had to pay for internet. I thought internet os for free for Royal Ambassador.

I was looking forward to the Barclay! Was extremely disappointed!
Your Hotel is in need of a makeover. Very Dated Bathrooms and
furnishings. The nightly rate was not indicative of the decor and outdated style of the room.
I'm a Platinum Ambassador member and have stayed in many Intercontinental Hotels all over the world, this property by far was the most disappointing I have encountered.

ALL STAFF IN THE HOTEL OFFER AN EXCELLENT "FIRST CLASS" SERVICE AND NO AREA CAN BE SINGLED OUT. WE HAD A PERSON IN OUR PARTY WITH MOBILITY PROBLEMS AND A PART TIME WHEELCHAIR USER. ALL STAFF WERE VERY ACCOMMODATING AND WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO HELP MAKE THEM FEEL COMFORTABLE. NOTHING SEEMED TOO MUCH TROUBLE. GOOD FACILITIES IN THE ROOM.
WE HAVE VISITED THIS PARTICULAR HOTEL ABOUT 13 TIMES NOW AND ARE NEVER DISAPPOINTED . THAT'S WHY WE KEEP RETURNING AND LOOK FORWARD TO OUR NEXT VISIT IN NOVEMBER 2013.

We stayed over Thanksgiving 2012 at the Barclay InterContinental. We arrived on a very early flight in the morning but were able to access our room before 10 am upon arrival which was a surprise and an absolute delight after a long flight. The beds are the most comfortable we have slept in in New York. The rooms were well serviced by the friendly chambermaids. We are very grateful to Senela of Customer Relations who went more than the extra mile to accommodate us when we wanted to extend our stay by a further 3 nights. All in all, we shall now be regular visitors to the hotel and look forward to our next stay, thanks in no small part to Selena.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Tricia55 There is no place like the Barclay
I live in Washington, DC, but I grew up in NYC. Whenever I return to NYC for a visit, I stay at the Barclay. I can't imagine staying anywhere else. The Barclay never disappoints. All my visits there have been extremely enjoyable. The staff, the service, and the amibiance are all wonderful; and the location is perfect. I consider the Barclay my NYC home away from home -- and there's no place like home.

Arrived for a 3 night break in New York and were delighted with the hotel. It is right in the middle of everything and walking distance from 5th Ave, Central Park, Grand Central Station amongst other things. The staff were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, the room was very clean and comfortable.
We did not eat a great deal in the hotel as were were so busy sightseeing but the drinks and food we had were good and fairly priced. I would use this hotel again and recommend it to friends and relatives. A lovely hotel and very nice place to stay.

It was my first time in NYC. The location it is outstading specially for those who visit the city for the first time. It´s really a "balcony" to the best of NYC. Overall welcoming, concierges, room service, cleanliness, amenities was wonderful. You have the choice to have breakfast in the room, all coffee stuff is available for those who choose that option for any reason.

Had a great stay at the hotel. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Our check-in was seamless and we were able to get early check-in (which is very rare for Manhattan hotels). The room was clean and the sheets were sumptuous! Valet parking attendants were also very helpful and friendly! Overall a great stay at a great location!

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by sinclair My last impression
Having arranged a limosine transfer to JFK when I checked out ($163), I was passed between the concierge, bell captain and doorman (who was extremely rude) several times. There seemed to be no communication between the team who booked the transportation and the team on the front door, something which most hotels in my experience have managed to achieve quite easily. This left me frustrated and frankly annoyed that a hotel of this class was unable to make the guest experience straightforward. My lasting impression of the hotel therefore was very negative.

Despite a welcoming not as friendly as one could hope from such an hotel (the attendant was brisk and not helpful), we had a very nice hotel, a great in-room dining, and at least an helpful, kind, and professionnal person at the checkout. The breakfast menu was excellent. The bellman was very kind

We are not amused at being charged for internet services over and above the relatively high single day rate . While the space and the service were excellent, lone would expect a more sophisticated selection of items from the little shop. The hotel bar was exceptional and worth visiting on its own merits.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by vtvoyager Disappointing
We stayed at the Barclay because our previous visits have been satisfactory to very good. However, this stay was the most disappointing stay I have ever had in an Intercontinental property.
Even though I have Platinum Ambassador status, I got a regular room across/diagonally from the elevator (even though my profile specifically states that I prefer rooms away from the elevators) and no amenity in the room. When I asked the Ambassador desk at the hotel about my upgrade and amenity, I was told that I was already in an upgraded room (even though it was the same size as the regular rooms and across from the elevator). She also told me that she has no idea why I never got my amenity. I find this disappointing as my experience with other Intercontinental properties has always been excellent customer service. If the room I was in was an "upgraded" room, I think it misses the intent or spirit of the Ambassador program, e.g., was the room 10 square feet larger than regular rooms so it was considered an upgraded room?
On a more positive note, the room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The final hotel bill was also accurate so check out was flawless.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by odot Intercontinental potential
My wife and I always look forward to our Intercontinental stays, ever since our first one in New Orleans, a remarkable hotel experience that still ranks at the top of our list. We had never stayed at The Barclay and were very much looking forward to it. We stayed in a junior suite, which was a very ample room and the Ambassador experience perks were appreciated. Unfortunately, though, there were drawbacks: (1) the kitchenette retained an unpleasant smell about it, even after I informed the Front Desk about the smell; (2) the bathroom was remarkably small for a junior suite (clearly a one-person bathroom that was significantly smaller than an opulent bathroom in a much lower priced hotel a few blocks away) and clearly evidenced a need for a significant make-over; (3) there was a tiny half-closet, which required that we have a rolling-hanger brought into the room to hang suits, dresses, and coats; (4) one side of the king-sized bed clearly sloped down, an indication either of the need to replace the mattress or to have a different bed in that room; (5) the fitness center was quite small for such a large hotel, though fortunately there were a steam room and sauna. I am not sure that I would stay here again, especially for the price. I think that one can do much better. It is a shame and I can only hope is not indicative of other Intercontinental operations. The location has "potential" but someone is going to have do some work to bring the potential to reality.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Mrsapworldwide Barclay is a grand hotel and with some minir improvements...excellent
The place is like an old shoe it fits and feels great....some recent upgrades are not thought out and there were some things I didn't like....as follows.
Bathroom is now an integrated shower....so you shower in a room and water goes everywhere including on the towels and in the bath tub.
There was no hair dryer or any amenities like toothbrush , razor cotton swabs etc. I could have called and they would have brought some I am sure ...but that's not what I would expect at the Barclay and IC chain....times square has everything in the room for you.
The room was giant suite but I don't need that so was surprised by sofas and sitting table...so they don't match room to guest needs....the welcome amenity was weak....some chocolate raisns.
Ok some small improvements ill go back but for now ill stay at Times Square .....if the price is equal.

Loved the whole experience of the Barclay from the time we arrived until we left. The staff, the wonderful beds - like sleeping on a cloud, the Appletons hot toddys before bed in the hotel bar, the french onion soup for a late lunch in the restaurant.
This hotel is a gracious old lady with old school service and hospitality. The stay added to our whole NYC experience - thank you

We love staying at the Intercontinental. From the moment you walk through the door, someone is there to greet you and make sure you are well taken care of. The rooms are spacious, the beds comfy and the bathrooms spotless. It is in a super location - great for shopping, theatre, Grand Central, just wandering. The concierges and guest services staff are extra helpful.

I unfortunately had a medical emergency while staying at the hotel and the staff were incredible in assisting me.
