Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Fair experience, high priced It's actually hard to define my overall experience; I stayed two different weeks in September and the experience was very different: The first time, I was recognized as a Gold Priority Club member and got a nice upgrade; nice mint room with great amenities. The attention on the front desk was good and the overall experience was great. The second time, a couple of weeks later, the service was awful; the guy in the reception was kindda rude and told me there were no king size rooms available; when I replied stating that I made a reservation for a King, he was not very willing to help and after some coming and going, I finally got a handicap room; surprisingly enough, the quality of the amenities is WAY different and also the space and general state of the room. Overall experience in Intercontinental hotels has most of the times been good in any city/country I've been, although I'd expect more customer care for the price. 11 October 2012

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by very disappointing The location and history and architectural potential of this property is not realized due to the terribly outdated state of the rooms and overall building. It was extremely depressing to stay there. The bathrooms are ridiculously small and in terrible condition and the furniture is really dated. the concierge was the only bright spot in the experience and the location is fantastic. I would not stay there again and this really hurts the Intercontinental brand I believe. 09 October 2012

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great room, ready on arrival, efficient check in and check out The Barclay is always a great experience and a great location. This visit was as usual a good to very good experience. Staff was very efficient for both check in and check out, and as I arrived late at night, the efficiency was important as I was anxious to check in and get some rest. Two minor points: I am Ambassador level, but did not receive the complimentary water and fruit (but did receive a great upgrade), and there was no shampoo. Overall a great experience as usual. 19 August 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quiet & Relaxing The hotel was very quiet & comfortable, great assets during a three-day tour of New York, which is generally very different (not quiet). All of the staff were very helpful, knowledgeable & efficient,we had a few questions to ask & a one problem of our own to resolve & these were all sorted quickly. The Bell Captain staff were notably friendly & helpful. It was great value for money because I paid with my Priority Club points. New York is expensive but the charges here were in-line with my expectations. 19 August 2012

We like the location of the hotel near mostof the places we wish to visit. The rooms are very comfortable and quiet, even though many overlook busy Lexington Avenue. We recommend the hotel for both business and leisure travellers. 18 August 2012

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Second stay at The Barclay ... Disappointing This was our second stay at the Barclay in New York City. Our first stay was very nice -- great room, good service, great value overall. For this stay, the front desk was understaffed and a long line formed for check in. Our room was a typical hotel room but it smelled a little odd when we first arrived. All night long we could hear doors slamming, music playing, and people talking all around us. The shower drain was so slow we ended up standing in a tub full of water after taking a shower, and the water pressure left much to be desired. Overall it was a very disappointing experience and we will likely seek out a different hotel for future stays in the Big Apple. 09 August 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by If you like classic style comfort this hotel is for you This is a classic old school luxury hotel, large lobby, large bedrooms however you will not get the shower facilities you have come to expect from the newer properties. The bathroom in my room was small, one of the smallest I have ever had. The bed was very comfortable, feather pillows and feather duvets. Room service was good however there was no film on demand facilities and the TV was still CRT. For Ambassador status customers they had a dedicated desk with seating area. If you like classic style comfort this hotel is for you I tend to like newer properties. 06 August 2012
